Computers are very important to modern life. Many people think that in the future computers will be used a lot in everyday life.It is thought that we won’t have to go shopping because we will be able to get most things which are sold in shops on the Internet. There will be no more books because we will be able to get all texts from computers. The Internet will be used to play games, see films and buy food. Most telephone calls will be made by computers, too.

Some people are glad about those new ways of shopping and communicating.Others do not think that computers will replace our old ways.

Let’s look at books, for example. Some people think that one day we will not read books made of paper.Instead,we will buy and read books using computers. We will read texts on small pocket computers. The computers will keep many different books in them at the same time.We won’t need to turn lots of pages and paper will be saved.Computerized (計算機化的) books will be used more and more.

Is Internet shopping such a pleasure as going to the shop? Many people say it is not.It is a pleasure to go into shops and look at things you want to buy.It is also unlikely that many people will want to read large texts on our computers, because paper books will perhaps be more friendly.Maybe computers won’t change these two habits.

1.In the first paragraph,it is thought that people will use computers for________.

A.playing games, shopping and making telephone calls

B.making telephone calls, having meals and seeing films

C.seeing films, buying food and going for holidays

D.playing games, making telephone calls and seeing the doctor

2.Which reason for using computerized books is NOT mentioned in the passage?

A.Computerized books won’t be very expensive.

B.Computers can keep many different books in them.

C.We won’t have lots of pages.

D.We won’t need any paper.

3.The fourth paragraph tells________.

A.about the old and new ways of shopping and communicating

B.if the Internet will change our habits

C.about computerized books

D.about future uses of computers

4.The best title for this passage is________.

A.Computers Will Replace Shops and Books

B.Computers in the Future

C.Computers Will Do Everything for Man

D.How Computers Change Our Habits

Linda Evans was my best friend—like the sister I never had. We did everything together: piano lessons, movies, swimming, horseback riding.

When I was 13, my family moved away. Linda and I kept in touch through letters, and we saw each other on special time—like my wedding (婚禮) and Linda’s. Soon we were busy with children and moving to new homes, and we wrote less often. One day a card that I sent came back, stamped “Address (地址) Unknown. ” I had no idea how to find Linda.

Over the years, I missed Linda very much. I wanted to share (分享) happiness of my children and then grandchildren. And I needed to share my sadness when my brother and then mother died. There was an empty place in my heart that only a friend like Linda could fill.

One day I was reading a newspaper when I noticed a photo of a young woman who looked very much like Linda and whose last name was Wagman — Linda’s married name. “There must be thousands of Wagmans,” I thought, but J still wrote to her.

She called as soon as she got my letter. “Mrs Tobin!” she said excitedly, “Linda Evans Wagman is my mother. ”

Minutes later I heard a voice that I knew very much, even after 40 years, laughed and cried and caught up on each other’s lives. Now the empty place in my heart is filled. And there’s one thing that Linda and I know for sure: We won’t lose each other again!

Dear Disney,
Last weekend, the four members of my family   spent an enjoyable holiday at the Magic Kingdom - Disneyland. And one event   made our visit seem truly magical. We got to the front of the line at Space   Mountain, only to find out that our little daughter Gloria couldn't take her   ice-cream on the ride. We were so excited that we all forgot ice-cream was   not allowed on the ride.

Gloria broke into tears and we all had no idea what to do.   Then Murphy, one of the staff(員工) members, came over. She bent down and   told Gloria that she would hold the ice-cream for her and give it to her when   she finished the ride. Gloria said, "Promise?" Then she gave Murphy   her ice-cream, and she completely enjoyed the ride.
Sure enough, as we walked out the exit, there   was Gloria's new friend with "her" ice-cream. Now you and I both   know what happened, because we know that an ice-cream won't last twenty minutes   on a summer afternoon in Florida. Murphy knew' what time we would get off the   ride; she went to the nearest shop and bought a brand-new ice-cream thirty   seconds before we walked out the exit. Gloria said, "Thank you,"   but I'm sure she thought it was the same ice-cream.
We know that someone tried hard to make   our visit special. Thanks so much for going above and beyond!
Your fan,
Carmen Rivera
