Smiling is the most attractive human behavior. The power of smiling can work out many wonders. I love to take a walk around the small neighborhood where I live. Whoever I meet on the way, they always give me a friendly greeting with a nice smile as soon as our eyes contact  1 . I smile back. This kind of smiling exchange represents the most   2  part of my jogging experience in the States.
My daughter's smile is just like sunlight, which warms me inside the same way   3   the sun warms my body. It can clear away any clouds and unpleasant feelings. The smile of my wife, however, makes me enjoy the   4  of an elegant woman, it can sometimes relax me quite a lot.
Julia Robert's    5  is nothing but roaring like an earthquake. Americans may have   6   opinions in many things, but they all agree that Julia is America's sweetheart. Her laugh plays a very good part in her acting. Once I tried some candy in a store, the owner asked me how sweet the candy is, I said sweeter than Julia Robert.   7  both of us broke into a kind of Julia's laugh. Yes, laugh is something we can not do without. Otherwise, our life would be too   8  .
Smiling does not belong to human alone. Once I stayed at an American home and he had a little dog named Mini. When I held her gently and asked her to give me a little smile,   9   just opened her mouth wide and half closed her eyes, looking like smiling.
Los Angles is not only the place where it has the most sunshine in a year,   10   where most people smile! That’s why so many people love to travel there all year round.

Martin had just finished high school. He would go to college at the far end of the city. He didn’t want to live there, and he didn’t want to take the bus either. So his father agreed to buy him a car.
His father spent all his summer teaching him how to drive, from the ABC to the XYZ. Thinking of the great feeling of driving a new car, Martin learned very quickly, and received his driver’s license just before his eighteenth birthday.
The second day, all the family, and their dog, went to a car shop. Martin spent almost all the morning going from one car to another. Finally he saw a red Blue Bird. He had a test drive on the open ground, and called out, “This is what I want, Dad!” When everything was done, they were ready to leave.
Martin climbed into the front seat. He said excitedly, “It’s my first day driving alone. Dad, Mom, and Poo! Enjoy it!”
His dad immediately took the back seat, right behind the new driver. Martin wondered why his father chose that seat, for his father always enjoyed looking in front.
So he said, smiling, “I’m sure you’re back there to have a change after all those weeks of sitting in the front seat teaching me how to drive.”
“No,” Dad replied, “Do you remember what you did to me all those years when I took you to and from school? I am sitting here to hit and kick the back of your seat all the way!”

My friend, Victor, is a zoo keeper in the National Zoo. His work is very interesting but it is hard. Sometimes it is dangerous, too. Every morning the zoo keepers have to get up at five to prepare the food for the animals. Each kind of animal is given special food. For example, the lions must be given meat; the deer must be given grass and leaves; and the parrots must be given fruit and nuts. Sometimes some animals won't let the others eat their food. If this happens,  each of them must be fed separately(分離地) .
Every morning each cage must be washed by the zoo keepers. This can be dangerous, especially with lions and tigers. To make the work easier, the animals are locked in the sleeping compartments (隔間) while the cages are being washed. When the animals are sick, the zoo keepers must look after them. Each sick animal is kept in a separate cage and given medicine. Sometimes they must be given injections. It is not easy to inject(打針) a sick lion!
All the keepers live near the zoo. Each of them has a small house. There he lives with his family. They do not have holidays on Sundays and public holidays. Instead, each of them has a day off during the week. Each keeper has a holiday on a different day from that of the other keepers.

 Dear Sir or Madam,
Last Thursday, I traveled on the 8:00 a.m. train from Glasgow to London King’s Cross and I was quite angry about the service of your station.
The train didn’t come on time and it was forty minutes late when it left Glasgow. A man at the station said sorry to us, but he didn’t give us any reasons for the delay (誤點(diǎn)). We then had further delays on the way and had to wait another thirty minutes. So I missed my plane from London to Frankfurt and had to wait for several hours.
What’s more (更重要的是), the service on the train was quite poor. The trip took more than five hours. Unluckily, we could buy nothing but some soft drinks on the train. Worst of all, something was wrong with the air conditioning and it got hotter and hotter in the train. Before we arrived in King’s Cross, the temperature was over 40℃.
Because of your poor service, I think you should pay me compensation (賠償).
I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Yours, David Robertson
