One fine morning, Jim White went into his garden. He began to dig a well(井). He wanted to get water from the well. He wanted the water for his flowers.
Soon there was a large pile(堆)of earth. His wife saw it and came out of the house.
“I don't want that pile of earth in the garden,” she said. “You must move it.”
“I can't put it in the street, can I? Where can I put it?”
Jim White asked.
“I don't know,”
his wife said.“You must find a place.”
Jim White went into the next house. His neighbour and friend, Tony Brown lived there.
“Good morning, Tony,”
Jim White said.“You have a very big garden. It's much bigger than mine.”
“Yes, it is.”
Tony Brown said.
“Can I put some of my earth in it?”
Jim White asked.
“I don't want a pile of earth in my garden.”
Tony Brown said.
“Then I'll dig a deep hole and put the earth in the hole.”
“Very well,”
Tony Brown said.“You can do that.”
Jim White dug a deep hole in his
neighbour's garden. Then he filled the hole with earth from his garden.
Tony Brown came out of his house again. He saw a pile of earth in his garden.
“I don't want your pile of earth in my garden.”
he said.
“Oh, that's not my earth,” Jim White said.“That's your earth. My earth is in that hole.”
