Today, there is a web site calling on walking to school. Different students have different ideas.
Sixty percent of the students think that walking to school is good for their health. Their parents don’t need to pick them up and they can know more about traffic rules to keep safe. What’s more, the traffic won’t be crazy any more after school.
But 40 percent of the students disagree with that. They think walking may waste lots of time if their home is far from the school. They will be late for class.

Music not only gives you something to sing and dance to, but also can make you
feel happier. Scientists say that music can help to relax people’s mind and even help
to relieve(痛苦) pain. How does music work its magic? It is the fact that music
can adjust(調(diào)節(jié)) our mood(心情). Recently, there is a scientific research toback up
what we have always known about music. The studies have shown that when people
are excited or happy they are more helpful. The opposite (相反的情況)happens when
people feel aggressive(好斗的) or under stress. The use of music can influence how
helpful people can be.
Dr. Adrian North made a study with 256 university students.Half the group took exercise
in the gymnasium listening to music which can bring happiness and the other half exercised
to aggressive music. When leaving the gym, the students were asked to hand out flyers(傳單) in support of the local disabled athlete’s foundation(殘疾運(yùn)動(dòng)員基金會(huì)).
The results showed that nearly half of the group that listened to happy music were willing to (愿意) hand out flyers. But less than 20% in the group that heard the aggressive music were willing to do so. This study suggests that our choice of music can influence our willingness to cooperate(合作). While a study also shows that productivity (生產(chǎn)效率) can be increased with the right choice of background music in the workplace. As music stimulates(刺激)worker’s mind, job satisfaction is often positively influenced. Other studies have shown that workers who are in a good mood have more job satisfaction than those in a bad mood.
These studies show that music can have a powerful influence on a person’s ability to cooperate. Moods have a direct influence(直接影響) on cooperation and job satisfaction. These factors also have a direct relationship to the success of a business.
小題1:What do scientists say about music ? _____________________________.
小題2:The phrase “back up” , Paragraph 1 most probably means “support”, doesn’t it ?
_________.
小題3:Why do people use the right choice of background music in the workplace?_______ .

Should Shanghai bid for(申辦) the Summer Olympics in 2028? Here are some people’s opinions.
Some people said, “The games will improve Shanghai’s global influence and the city is powerful and must try to become a platform(平臺(tái)) for major international dialogues. Shanghai has succeeded in holding the World Expo in 2010 and the city can also hold a successful Summer Olympics.”
Others, however, are not sure that it’s a good idea. They think the Olympics would be too expensive and the money could be better spent on other things.
The 2008 Beijing Olympics brought much prestige(聲望) to the city and to China, but its cost, over $40 million, was high and the Olympic site(場(chǎng)地) in the center of the city is now largely unused. Could Shanghai learn from Beijing’s experience and do it better?
My answer is yes. As one American said, “A great city has to do great things.” Shanghai is a great city and is not afraid of facing challenges. Holding the 2028 Summer Olympics would prove that.
小題1:When did Shanghai hold the World Expo?
小題2:Why don’t some people agree to bid for the 2028 Summer Olympics?
小題3:How much did the 2008 Beijing Olympics cost?
小題4:Does the writer agree to Shanghai’s bidding?
