One of the most popular items(項目) in the school newspaper is the advice column. No one knows who writes it. The students think their teacher does, but it might be a student using a false name.
The students enjoy thinking up problems for the advice column. Here are some of them and their answers.
Ask the Wise Owl
Q: I’m always late for school. I try not to be, but I can’t help it. Please advise me what to do. Tommy.
A: You are probably late for school because you don’t really like school. My advice to you is to try and enjoy school more, then you won’t be late so often.
Q: I find it difficult to make friends. What do you think I should do? Sara.
A: I can’t advise you until I know more about you. Your problem may be that you are shy. On the other hand, it may be the opposite. You may be too bold(冒失). Write and tell me more about yourself.
Q: I’m always at the bottom(底部,末尾) of the class. What do you advise me to do? Molly.
A: I advise you to concentrate on(全神貫注) improving your grades in one subject to start with. If you can do this, you should move a little way up from the bottom. Experts(專家) say that students usually need eight to ten hours’ sleep at night, but most Chinese students do not get enough sleep. Some Chinese parents are usually glad to see their children studying late. They will think their children work very hard, but not all parents are happy about this. Once a mother told us that every morning her 10-year-old boy put up one finger with his eyes still closed, begging for one more minute to sleep. Like thousands of students “ early birds” in China, he has to get up before six every morning.

A report shows that without a good night’s sleep, students seem to be weaker (虛弱)than they should be. Many students have fallen asleep during class at one time or another. Too much homework is not the only reason why students stay up late. Some watch TV or play the computer games late into the night.

Experts have ever said that the students should develop good study habits. So some clever students never study late, they are able to work well in class.

Because I work from 9:00 to 5:30, the only time I could go to the cinema was during my 45-minute lunch time. How to be a good detective

Have you seen the Hollywood movie Sherlock Holmes? Holmes is a character created by British writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. His books were so popular that Holmes soon became “the most famous detective in the world”. What do you need to be a good detective? The movie Sherlock Holmes will show you.

In this movie, this great detective faces a dangerous man, Lord Blackwood. Together with his best friend Dr Watson, Holmes stops Blackwood’s plan to control the world with black “magic”.

3.Even though Holmes has knowledge about many subjects , such as chemistry, botany(植物學(xué)) and anatomy, he still needs Dr Watson’s help to fight with him. We should also have someone to help you, especially if you don’t know as much as Holmes.

4.A good detective never jumps to conclusions. When all the necessary clues are put together, you’d better think carefully. If you can’t work it out, don’t be afraid. Just take a deep breath and concentrate on thinking. Logic can help you discover missing clues.
