Soccer is the world’s favorite sport. In America people call it football. It has around 3 billion fans — nearly half the world’s population! 【1】 That’s 4 percent of the world’s population!
【2】 Many people in old days played early forms of this modern game. Cu ju (蹴踘), a ball-kicking game in China, was reported as early as 2,500 B.C. Around the same time in Greece, people were also playing a similar ball game without using their hands.
But modern soccer didn’t become official (官方的) until 1863. An Englishman called Cobb Morley introduced the idea of a football association (聯(lián)盟). 【3】 From then on, other associations in countries were set up. They came together to make up the FIFA, which organizes the World Cup. Thirty-two national teams play in the World Cup every four years.
It’s not easy to tell what makes soccer so popular. 【4】 Soccer needs only two feet and a ball. This makes it a sport that developing countries can easily play. Some of the sport’s best players come from these poor nations.
【5】 The sport’s no-hands rule makes beautiful dance-like movements on the field. What’s more, this sport excites the heart. Teams might score only a few times each match, so matches can turn around suddenly.
No one knows which country will win at the next World Cup. But one thing is certain: The world will be watching.

【題目】閱讀下面的短文,根據(jù)文中信息完成文后表格。(每空一詞)
When computer servers (服務(wù)器) operate a large program, they can get very hot. Cooling the servers can cost a lot. So some scientists want to know what would happen if the heat created by the servers could be used.
Data (數(shù)據(jù)) centres of large Internet companies such as Google and Microsoft have
thousands of computer servers. As these servers deal with information, they produce lots of heat, so they need huge cooling systems. These systems send the heat into the air.
A company in Holland (荷蘭) thinks paying for electricity to operate (使運行) the servers
and then paying again to cool them are a waste of energy. So it developed a device (裝置) called the e-Radiator. It contains a computer server connected to the Internet. By placing these servers inside people’s homes instead of out-the-way data centres, the company hopes to heat homes from excess computer heat, while lowering costs for the computer users.
Five homeowners in Holland are testing the heating system in their homes. Jan Visser is one of them. He says the amount of heat produced by the e-Radiator depends on the work being done by the computer server. “It’s a great help for my family,” he says.
The company says e-Radiators produce heat temperatures of up to 55℃. It says the system
could save its users about $440 in heating costs a year.
