More than 95 percent of people in the world have phones today, according to the United Nations. Phone calls and messages help us easily communicate with others. It means that we seldom write letters now. But a TV show, Letters Alive, is bringing back this old habit.
Letters Alive got its idea from a UK program with a similar name. Both shows invite famous actors and actresses, but there are no funny jokes or different competitions. Instead, it’s just one person walking up to a microphone and reading a letter.
The letters were written by people from different times in history. For example, in one episode (集) they read a letter written by famous writer Xiao Hong to her younger brother in 1941. The letter shows that Xiao Hong missed her brother so much and had great hopes for his future.
“Every letter opens another world for us,” according to Guan Zhengwen, the director of the TV show.” It seems that we can experience the real lives and feelings of the writers.”
Since its first episode on the fifth of December, Letters Alive has been widely praised. Many audience(觀眾) members said that it has provided a breath of fresh air to today’s TV shows.

Many cities around the world today are heavily polluted. Products (產(chǎn)品)are not produced in a“green”way and people haven’t realized the importance of buying and using environment-friendly products. These lead to the pollution problem. One result is that millions of tons of waste like glass, paper and plastics is produced. The waste problem is difficult to deal with.
However, today, more and more people are choosing“green”and expecting that the products they buy should be safe for the environment. Before they buy a product, they ask questions like these:“Will this soap be bad for the environment?”“Can this metal container be reused or can it only be used once?”
Over 20,000 people took part in a web survey (調(diào)查) on buying environment-friendly products. Among them,8,129 people say that they now consider the environmental safety of a product before they buy it. That is to say, companies must change the way they make and sell their products to make sure that the products are“green”.
A few years ago,it was impossible to find green products in supermarkets, but now there are hundreds. Some supermarket products carry labels(標(biāo)簽)to show that they are green. Some companies have made the clean and safe products their main selling point in advertising.
The growing need for a safer and cleaner environment is making companies rethink how they do business. The public will no longer accept the old idea of“buy it,use it,throw it away, and forget it. ”As a result, the companies have to take action.
1.What do more and more people consider before they buy products?
2.In the survey, how many people prefer green products now?
3.Is it possible or impossible to get green products in the supermarket now?
4.Why do the companies have to reconsider how to do business and take action?
5.What's the passage mainly about?

Reading is a good habit, but the problem is, there’s too much to read these days, and too little time to read every word of it. There are hundreds of skills to help you read more in less time. Here are two skills that I think are especially good.
Preview—if it’s long and hard. Previewing is especially useful for getting a general idea of heavy reading like long magazine articles and business reports.
Here’s how to preview.
◆Read the first two paragraphs and the last two paragraphs carefully.
◆Then read only the first sentence of the other paragraphs.
Previewing doesn’t give you all the details. It keeps you from spending time on things you don’t really want or need to read.
Skim—if it’s short and simple. Skimming is a good way to get a general idea of light reading like popular magazines or the sports and entertainment of your daily paper.
Here’s how to skim.
◆Get your eyes to move fast. Sweep them across each line.
◆Pick up only a few key words in each line.
Everybody skims differently. You and I may not pick up the same words when we skim the same piece, but we’ll get a similar idea of what it’s all about.
1.How many skills are given in this passage?
A. One., B. Two., C. Three., D. Four.
2.What does the underlined word “preview” mean in Chinese?
A. 精讀, B. 默讀, C. 朗讀, D. 略讀
3.What should we NOT do when we read sports news in a daily paper according to the passage?
A. Read the last two paragraphs carefully.
B. Get our eyes to move fast.
C. Sweep our eyes across each line.
D. Pick up only a few key words in each line.
4.Which of the following is WRONG?
A. Skim means reading quickly. It’s a good way to read.
B. There are a lot of ways for you to read more in less time.
C. By previewing you can get all the details of the passage.
D. People can spend less time doing more reading.
5.What is the best title for this passage?
A. How to read faster, B. What to read
C. When to read, D. Why we should read
