On the first day of sixth grade,I waited at the stop for the school bus. I was eager to know what kind of persons I would 1        on the bus.

When it arrived,I got on and said hello to the bus driver,Mr Rolland. Then I noticed one little girl called Amy. She was 2        everyone else on the bus.

"Don't talk to Amy," warned Lauren, who sat beside me.  "Or everybody will 3        you".

"Mr Rolland!Amy 6      her glasses, and now her eyes are scaring me. Make her put them back on!" they would say.

For a while I showed my share of insults, just to fit in. After all,I didn't want the other kids treating me the same way they 7        Amy.

But while I was insulting her,my heart ached for the girl. I could see that the insults were almost making her 8        uglier, because she was so ashamed and alone.

I began to pity her. Then I wanted to stand up for her. I just didn't know how 9        my schoolmates until the night of our class rollerskating party.

Our whole class was there, including Amy. Amy didn't know how to skate, but I could see 10        she wanted to have fun like the rest of us.

So I skated over to her and took her by the hand. I slowly 11        her away from the wall, and together we began around the skating rink. I never said a word to her,and she never spoke to me. She just smiled, and every once in a while she would laugh in 12      On the school bus the next morning there was 13        news about Amy and me skating together. But nobody insulted her or me.

When the school year ended,my family moved away. And I never heard from Amy again. But I always 14        that I changed her life for the better.

She 15       my life. After becoming her friend,I no longer tried to impress people by trying to act like them or dress like them. I became myself.
