【題目】C
What is time? Is it a thing to be saved or spent or wasted, like money? Or is it something we have no control over, like the weather? Is it the same all over the world? That’s an easy question, you say. Wherever you go, a minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 60 minutes, a day is 24 hours, and so forth. Well, maybe. But in America, time is more than that. Americans see time as a valuable resource(資源). Maybe that’s why they like the expression, “Time is money.”
Because Americans believe time is a limited resource, they try to keep and manage it. People in the US often attend meetings or read books on time management. It seems that they all want to organize their time better. People try their best to press more life out of their time.
To Americans, being on time is a way of showing respect(尊重) for other people’s time. Being more than 10 minutes late usually calls for an apology(道歉) and an explanation. People who are running late often call ahead to let others know that they can’t be on time. Of course, the less formal(正式的) the situation is, the less important it is to be exactly on time. At informal get-togethers, for example, people often arrive as much as 30 minutes late. But they usually don’t try that at work.
American lifestyles show how much people respect the time of others. When people plan an event, they often set the time days or weeks before it. Once the time is fixed, it is almost impossible to change it. If people want to come to your house for a friendly visit, they will usually call first to make sure it is convenient. Only very close friends will just “drop by” unannounced. Also, people seldom call others late at night for fear they might be in bed. The time may be different, but most people think twice about calling after 10:00 pm.
Even Americans would agree that no one can master time. Time, like money, slips all too easily through our finger. And time, like the weather, is very hard to predict. However, time is one of life’s most valuable gifts.
【1】From Paragraph 1, we can learn that ___________.

A. Americans respect others’ time in daily life B. Americans never call after ten o’clock
C. Americans visit friends without calling first D. Americans arrive days before an event
【3】The underlined phrase “think twice” probably means “___________”.
A. pay attention B. learn wisely C. feel relaxed D. consider carefully
【4】According to this passage, ___________.
A. most American people treasure their time

【題目】
Someone once said that only change itself never changes. That certainly seems to be the case with me.
I can measure (測量) my life by the changes that have taken place. And now I am deciding on another change. We are selling our boat after fifteen years of summers on the water.
We bought the boat shortly after we moved to Canada’s west coast. We then joined a boating club and we enjoyed cruising among the Southern Gulf Islands, meeting friends who likes doing cruising on the sea. Skukum, as well we call the boat, has carried us safely through both smooth and very rough water. At about ten meters long it is large enough to be comfortable to live on for days at a time. Also, the scenery in our part of the world is fantastic with sea birds, dolphins and even whales.
We feel it is time, however, to do something different. Admittedly, this change will be made partly because boating is an expensive hobby. Boats require a lot of maintenance (維修), use lots of gas and cost a lot even when they are sitting still (靜止的). Beyond the cost is the feeling that we have done just about everything we want to do with the boat. We could continue to spend summer weekends on the water or we could make a change in our lifestyle and start doing road trips to places we haven’t seen across North America. As we have children and grandchildren on both the east and west coasts, driving trips will be more necessary. So it’s time to make a choice and, having now made it, it’s time to make a change.
Like most changes there will be both benefits and regrets but we feel the time has come. There is no doubt that we will miss the boat but we will also open a new door in our lives. Hopefully, we have made the right decision.
【1】What never changes that the writer believes?
A.Himself.B.Change.C.LifeD.Hobby.
【2】What change did the writer decide on?
A.Selling their boat to change the lifestyle.B.Moving to Canada’s west coast.
C.Meeting more friends who like boating.D.Joining a boating club.
【3】According to Paragraphs 2&3, what can we learn about the boat?
A.The writer’s family bought the boat fifteen years ago.
B.The boat is called Skukum and usually driven on rivers.
C.The boat is large enough to live for months at a time.
D.The boat has many sea-birds, dolphins and whales inside.
【4】From Paragraph 4, which is NOT the reason why the writer has made such a decision?
A.Besides maintenance and gas, the boat costs much even when it’s still.
B.They have done everything they want to do with the boat.
C.They want to see more across North America through road trip.
D.Their children and grandchildren will move to the east coast.
【5】From the last paragraph, what does the writer think of their decision?
A.He has regretted doing so and missed the boat.
B.He hopes the decision will bring them a new lifestyle.
C.He believes this is a correct decision without doubt.
D.he doesn’t like to open a new door in their lives.
