　　In many countries, a woman changes her family name to her husband's after she gets married．But today, many women are keeping their own family name and not using their husband's．Sometimes, women use their own names in some situations(情況)and their husband's in other situations．And some use both their own name and their husband's．

　　Canada Geese are large blue and white birds．When autumn arrives, they have to fly south where the weather is warmer．The winters are so cold in Canada that the birds die if they stay there．

　　Last spring, Bill Lishman found sixteen young Canada Geese on his farm．They had lost their parents．Bill thought,“These young birds won't know what to do in the autumn．”

　　Bill had a small plane and he decided to teach the bird sto follow him．All through the summer, he went on short trips in his plane and the young geese flew after him．

　　When the cold weather arrived in autumn, Bill flew to Virginia in the United States, 600 miles(英里)south of his home in Canada．The geese followed him all the way．Bill left the geese in Virginia and he returned home．

　　This spring, Bill was waiting for the birds to come back．They didn't arrive, so Bill flew to Virginia to get them．He looked for them for two weeks but he couldn't find them．

　　When he arrived back home, Bill found the geese waiting for him．They had found their way home without him!

　　In every big city in the world, there is a business area．There the big companies have their main offices．In the United States, this area is usually in the city center．The people who work there often travel a long way to work each day．Many of them live outside the city．It is far away from the industrial area and the city center．

　　What is the future of the big cities?Will they go on getting bigger and bigger?Perhaps not．Some big cities have become smaller in the last ten years．It is quite possible that one day we will see people moving out of the big cities and back into smaller towns and villages．

　　Yao Ming, the center of the Chinese National Men's Basketball Team, served the Houston Rockets in the 2002 NBA．The 2.2 m, 120 kg center becomes the first one to come from a foreign team．

　　Yao Ming was born in Shanghai in September, 1980．His mother was a center and captain of the Chinese National Women's Team．His father played basketball, too．

　　Yao Ming joined the Huston Rockets in November, 2002．He said this was a new start in his basketball life．He would do his best to learn from the NBA and improve himself．

　　You'll see a new doctor at a hospital near London if you go there He is very clever, but he never speaks and doesn't go to medical school．He can work 24 hours and never be tired．He is one metre tall with a face like a TV screen．He has no arms or legs, although he has a lot of buttons(按鈕)and switches．The new doctor is, of course, a computer．Doctors often need to ask their patients about their health in the past．But busy doctors can only spend a few minutes with each patient．The new machine, however, can ask a patient questions for an hour if necessary．So when the doctor meets his patient he already has a lot of helpful information．

　　Several clinics and hospitals in Britain are using these computers now．The computers show each question on TV screen．Then the patient pushes one of the three buttons：“Yes”,“No”, or“I don't know”．The computer is really quiet human．If a very personal question is asked, it will be followed by“I hope these questions aren't upsetting(使……煩惱)you．”O(jiān)r if you answer“No”to the question“Is your father alive”, the machine will reply“I am sorry to hear that．”

　　Most patients like the metal doctor．Some patients even prefer it．They can answer very personal questions more comfortably．

　　There are plans for better computers－perhaps ones that can speak．But the machine will never do the doctor's job．They will help doctors to give their patients better service．
