Your mobile phone rings and instead of the usual electronic signals it’s playing your favourite music.A friend sends your favourite song to cheer you up.One day,a record company might forward new records and music videos to your phone.
The mobile business is getting into the music business. For the moment, the interest is in pleasant ring tones, but some companies are hoping to take full advantage of the next generation of mobile phones—all purpose gadgets that blend phone, personal stereo, video player and Internet browser into one.
Finally, record companies might send new records and videos to fans who register their cell phone numbers.
The fans could pass music or songs along to friends—a kind of musical trading card.Unlike Internet tracks, mobile downloads would be easy for record companies to control, said former record industry official Ralph,Simon, who is now chairman of Yourmobile, based in Santa Monic,California.
“If you pass a song along to other phones through a network, each phone can be charged,” said Simon.“It’s like going through toll gate (收費(fèi)站).There’s more possibility for copyright control than there is on the Internet.”
Massachusetts-based Converse is offering service in Portugal and the Netherlands that lets people record tunes on their voice mail or send music as presents to friends. Finally, people might be able to sing karaoke and pass them along. The company is sure that people will want to use music to reach out and touch someone.
“A mobile phone is not a listening machine, and you’ll be disappointed if you think you can change it into a radio,” said Ouzel,a creative manager for Converse in Israel.“But if someone sends you a song while you’re on vacation, you appreciate the feeling.”
72.The underlined word “blend” in the second paragraph most probably means _____.
A.send                B.come               C.mix                 D.compare
73.“Massachusetts-based Converse”in the sixth paragraph probably refers to ______.
A.a(chǎn) person                                      B.a(chǎn) city in Israel
C.a(chǎn) state of the USA                    D.a(chǎn) company

A.a(chǎn)re worried about                         B.a(chǎn)re interested in
C.try hard to stop                             D.take no notice of
75.According to Ralph Simon it would be easier to _______ through mobile phone network than through the Internet.

Life on-line can be a much richer experience when you aren’t restricted to just written words and still pictures. Even if you’re new to the Net, you’ve probably heard about multimedia on-line—listening to audio, watching animations and videos, even playing in three-dimensional space. Sound and movement make information come alive.

To experience it, you’ll need special pieces of software called plug-ins. The term “plug-in” refers to a small, add-on piece of software which extends the capabilities of your web browser, like Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer, turning your computer into a radio or TV.

When you arrive at a web page which contains a file requiring a plug-in which you don’t have, you will usually receive a message asking if you want to get it by downloading it and installing it into your computer. Most of the time, the installation will be automatic.

Occasionally, you’ll run into a downloaded file which needs to be decompressed or un-zipped before installation. Once installed, plug-ins run automatically, without you having to do anything.

Many multimedia controls still need to be obtained from the developer but are installed automatically.

Shockwave is a good example of this. All you need to do is go to the Macromedia site and click on the link to install the ActiveX control. The rest happens automatically. The next time you go to a “Shocked” website, the Shockwave control loads and plays the movie.

Most plug-ins and controls can be downloaded for free on the Internet, although not all will work with every system. Some of them, for instance, only work with Windows 95.

1.Plug-ins can help us to do all of the following except _________.

A.listening to music

D.a small,add-on piece of software like Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Explorer

3.When we go to a “shocked” website a second time,_________.

A.we should go to the Macromedia site and click on the link to install the Active X control

B.the shockwave control loads itself and plays the movie for us

C.we will be asked whether to download the shockwave control or not

D.we have to buy the shockwave control and load it

4.Most of the time, how can we get a plug-in before automatic installation?

A.We have to buy it from the developer.

B.We have to borrow it from the developer.

C.We have to rent it from the developer.

D.We can obtain from the developer without paying.

A blocked airway(呼吸道) can kill someone in three to four minutes, but it can take more than eight minutes for an ambulance to arrive. So a simple procedure such as opening someone's airway can save their life while they're waiting for emergency medical help. This means you're more likely to give first aid to someone you know than a stranger.

There are many misconceptions(誤解) surrounding first aid. Below are the ‘most popular’ ones with details of what you should do.

You should put butter or cream on a burn. The only thing you should put on a burn is cold water - keep the butter for cooking. Put the affected area under cold running water for at least ten minutes.

The best way to treat bleeding is to put the wound under a tap. If you put a bleeding wound under a tap you wash away the body's clotting agents(凝血?jiǎng)? and make it bleed more. Instead put pressure on the wound with whatever is available to stop or slow down the flow of blood. As soon as possible call 999. Keep pressure on the wound until help arrives.

Nosebleeds are best treated by putting the head back. If you put the head back during a nosebleed, all the blood goes down the back of the airway. Instead advise them to tilt(傾斜) their head forwards and ask the person to pinch(捏) the end of their nose and breathe through their mouth.

You need lots of training to do first aid. You don’t - what you mostly need is common sense. You can learn enough first aid in a few minutes to save someone's life – whether it’s from a book, attending a course or watching videos online.
