【答案】

One Possible Version:

Recently ,the air quality in China has raised widespread concern. As is indicated in the picture, an old man and his grandson are taking a walk in the street with masks covering their mouths. As the haze is becoming heavier and heavier, they find it hard to see the buildings and trees around them clearly.

What the picture conveys here is that air pollution is quite severe in China. Many factors account for this phenomenon. In the first place, vehicles sending large quantities of poisonous gases are a major source of air pollution. Furthermore, factories that release a great deal of smoke are also responsible for the poor air quality. Besides, burning materials like coal or oil for homes and offices is another major contributor to air pollution.

Personally, to better the air quality, the government and the common citizens should make joint efforts. Riding and walking are wise options for public travels. Meanwhile, effective laws are supposed to be made to guarantee good air quality.

奧朗德

President Normal

(2012年洛陽二模)BEFORE Nicolas Sarkozy became French president,he was asked if he thought about presidency when he looked in the mirror while shaving(刮胡子).“Not just when I'm shaving,”he answered.

When Francois Hollande, now presidentelect(總統(tǒng)當(dāng)選人)of France, was asked the same question,he replied:“Do I see myself as president? No,I am a presidential candidate.A candidate must not think himself president;he must give hope that he becomes president.”

Hollande has promised to be a“normal(普通的) president”-something Sarkozy certainly was not.Sarkozy celebrated his election in 2007 at a worldclass Parisian restaurant. He took holidays on the yachts(游艇)of wealthy businesspeople.Hollande,by contrast, was still going around Paris on his threewheeled motorbike at the start of this year. One member of his party said he looked“more like a pizza delivery man”than the next president.

“That is the key to Hollande's success because the election is turning into a sort of referendum(公民投票)for or against Nicolas Sarkozy,”Eric Dupin,a journalist and political observer(觀察員)told Global Post.“Francois Hollande is the one who appears not only as his main opponent(對手)politically, but also as his complete opposite psychologically(心理上).”

When he was the Socialist party leader,Hollande was nicknamed“the marshmallow(軟糖)”because he hated fights.Sarkozy,by contrast,is known to be loud and aggressive(好斗的).

When faced with Sarkozy's verbal attacks during the election,Hollande stayed calm. This sometimes annoyed even his own supporters.“I wish he would just let go and savage(用暴力對付)Sarko,”one Hollande voter said to the Guardian.

But Hollande still knows how to fight.Stéphane Le Foll,a Sicialist MEP who has been one of Hollande's closest advisors for 17 years and is codirecting his campaign, said Hollande had quietly planned his presidential bid(投標(biāo)) for 10 years.“I think we all underestimated(低估)this guy,”Alain Minc, one of Sarkozy's closest friends and advisers, told Reuters.

Hollande was born in 1954 into a middleclass family. He lived through the 1968 protests(抗議)that nearly overthrew(推翻)the French government.“They shocked him,but also politicized him,he said in a recent interview, making him understand that change was possible,”reported the New York Times. When Hollande was 15,he told friends he expected to become president.

“I didn't come to the first rank either by chance or by obsession(執(zhí)迷),”Hollande said in an interview with Reuters.“I got there because I put myself in this situation, and because I deserved (值得的;應(yīng)受的)it.”

【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中選出最佳選項(xiàng)。

If cars had wings, they could fly and that just might happen, beginning in 2011.The company Terrafugia, based in Woburn,Massachusetts, says it plans to deliver its carplane, the Transition,to customers by the end of 2011.

“It's the next ‘wow’ vehicle,” said Terrafugia vice president Richard Gersh.“Anybody can buy a Ferrari, but as we say,F(xiàn)erraris don't fly.”

The carplane has wings that unfold for flying-a process the company says takes one minute-and fold back up for driving. A runway is still required to take off and land.

The Transition is being marketed more as a plane that drives than a car that flies, although it is both. The company has been working with FAA to meet aircraft regulations, and with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to meet vehicle safety regulations.

The company is aiming to sell the Transition to private pilots as a more convenient and cheaper way to fly. They say it saves you the trouble from trying to find another mode of transportation to get to and from airports:You drive the car to the airport and then you're good to go. When you land, you fold up the wings and hit the road. There are no expensive parking fees because you don't have to store it at an airport-you park it in the garage at home.

The carplane is designed to fly primarily under 10,000 feet. It has a maximum takeoff weight of 1,430 pounds, including fuel and passengers. Terrafugia says the Transition reduces the potential for an accident by allowin pilots to drive under the bad weather instead of flying into marginal(臨界的) conditions.

The Transition's price tag:$194,000.But there may be additional charges for options like a radio,a transponder or a GPS. Another option is a fullplane parachute.

“If you get into a very awful situation,it is the necessary safety option,” Gersh said.

So far,the company has more than 70 orders with deposits. “We're working very closely with them, but there are still some remaining steps,” Brown said.

【1】We can learn from the first two paragraphs that ________.

A.carplanes will be popular in 2011

B.people might drive a carplane in 2011

C.both the Transition and Ferrari can take off and land

D.Richard Gersh is the vice president of Massachusetts

【2】It takes the carplane one minute to ________.

A.fold and unfold its wings

B.unfold wings for flying

C.land in the airport

D.meet flying safety regulations

【3】According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?

A.The carplane needs a runway to take off and land.

B.To meet aircraft regulations, the company has been working with FAA.

C.The carplane may fly as high as normal planes.

D.People can park the carplane in the garage at their home.

【4】The underlined word “it” in the last but one paragraph refers to ________.

A.the radio

B.the transponder

C.the GPS

D.the fullplane parachute

【5】What's the best title for the passage?

A.Cars with wings may be just around the corner

B.Which to choose:a Ferrari or a carplane?

C.A more convenient and cheaper way to fly

D.Cars with wings can fly as fast as planes

【題目】How could we possibly think that keeping animals in cages in unnatural environments-mostly for entertainment purposes-is fair and respectful?

Zoo officials say they are concerned about animals. However, most zoos remain “collections” of interesting “things” rather than protective habitats(棲息地). Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals bored, lonely, and far from their natural homes.

Zoos claim to educate people and save endangered species(物種), but visitors leave zoos without having learned anything meaningful about the animals’ natural behavior, intelligence, or beauty. Zoos keep animals in small spaces or cages, and most signs only mention the species’ name, diet, and natural range(分布區(qū)). The animals’ normal behavior is seldom noticed because zoos don’t usually take care of the animals’ natural needs.

The animals are kept together in small spaces, with no privacy and little opportunity for mental and physical exercise. This results in unusually and self-destructive behavior called zoochosis. A worldwide study of zoos found that zoochosis is common among animals kept in small spaces or cages. Another study showed that elephants spend 22 percent of their time making repeated head movements or biting cage bars, and bears spend 30 percent of their time walking back and forth, a sign of unhappiness and pain.

Furthermore, most animals in zoos are not endangered.Captive breeding(圈養(yǎng)繁殖) of endangered big cats, Asian elephants, and other species has not resulted in their being sent back to the wild.Zoos talk a lot about their captive breeding programs because they do not want people to worry about a species dying out. In fact, baby animals also attract a lot of paying customers. Haven’t we seen enough competitions to name baby animals?

Actually, we will save endangered species only if we save their habitats and put an end to the reasons people kill them. Instead of supporting zoos, we should support groups that work to protect animals’ natural habitats.

【1】In the state of zoochosis, animals _________.

A.remain in cages B.a(chǎn)ttack other animals

C.behave strangely D.enjoy moving around

【2】What does the author try to argue in the passage?

A.Zoos fail in their attempt to save animal

B.Zoos are not worth the public support.

C.Zoos should treat animals as human beings.

D.Zoos use animals as a means of entertainment.

【3】The author tries to persuade readers to accept his argument mainly by _________.

A.using evidence he has collected at zoos

B.pointing out the faults in what zoos do

C.questioning the way animals are protected

D.discussing the advantages of natural habitats

【4】Although he argues against zoos, the author would still agree that __________.

A.zoos have to keep animals in small cages

B.most animals in zoos are endangered species

C.it’s acceptable to keep animals away from their habitats

D.some endangered animals are reproduced in zoos

【題目】Have you noticed your life becoming a little easier? Now, when you go to a certain shopping mall, you can enjoy its free Wi-Fi there. When you want to take a taxi, you can book one with your phone. In fact, all these can be seen as the basic parts of a smart city.

The idea of a smart city was brought up by US company IBM in 2010. Generally, a smart city is a city that uses digital technologies such as the Internet to improve city planning, save money and resources, and make our life convenient. How smart can a city be? Here are great examples that we can learn from.

In 2009, Dubuque became the first smart city in the US. The city used smart water meters to take the place of traditional water meters. They can detect(探測〉water waste and leakage(泄漏)and send data to let the house owner know. The same system is used for other city resources like electricity and natural gas. This way, people know how they use their resources and are glad to help reduce waste.

Santander in Spain also gives us a look at the future. If people point a phone toward a nearby bus stop, the phone immediately shows all bus lines that serve the stop as well as their arrival times. The government organized a research team and provided an App(應(yīng)用程序〉that collects data on almost everything: light, temperature, and the movements of cars and people.
