18.By day,Clark Kent is a journalist who fights for truth and disadvantaged groups in Metropolis.But when the shy man removes his glasses,Clark Kent is gone.He becomes Superman.Not even his colleagues,including Lois Lane who often reports stories about Superman,realize that the flying superhero works with them.Personally,I've always found Superman's"disguise (偽裝)"extremely funny,but then again it's just something you accept as part of the Superman universe.However,obviously wearing glasses does indeed make it hard for people to recognize you,according to a recent study.
People of Metropolis are not the fools everyone thinks they are.Researchers from University of York's Department of Psychology showed participants faces of people.The pictures were presented in pairs in three groups:glasses-wearing faces,a pair with only one person wearing glasses,and finally a pair with no one wearing glasses.Each participant had to judge whether the faces shown in each pair were the same person or not.
In those cases where both of the faces wore glasses or where neither wore glasses,participants were right 80percent of the time.When one face wore glasses,and the other didn't,participants were much less able to identify when the same person was there,scoring about six percent lower.
These findings suggest that,generally,people find it difficult to match strangers'faces.When they wear glasses,the challenge is even greater.
Besides proving Clark Kent could have actually made it,the results could be useful to improve the security of passports and other ID cards.
"We hope that this research can be used by governments to help inform future policies on identification for security purposes, particularly in the UK where individuals who normally wear glasses are required to remove them for their identification cards,"the researchers wrote.

29.What did the author think of Superman's disguise?A
A.Unnecessary.
B.Logical.
C.Smart.
D.Unique.
30.What were the participants supposed to do with each pair of faces?B
A.Understand the importance of wearing glasses.
B.Tell whether they belong to the same person or not.
C.Explore the differences between the two faces.
D.Realize how wearing glasses can trick people.
31.How can the research finding be applied to the UK's security policies?D
A.Passports would include more pictures of a person.
B.Individuals have to take off their glasses in public.
C.All the passports and ID cards need to be updated.
D.People could probably wear glasses for their ID cards.
32.What would be the best title for the text?C
A.A study on wearing glasses.
B.Why does Superman wear glasses?
C.Superman's disguise is not that stupid.
D.Remove your glasses for security purposes.

19.Tired of all the pushing in supermarkets?Fed up with waiting in endless lines to pay for what you have bought?Angry at wasting time in traffic jams only to find no parking spaces when you eventually arrive at the store?If this is you,then online shopping is the answer to your dreams of trouble-free shopping.Or is it?
Online shopping brings its own challenges.Here are a few things to bear in mind when browsing various websites.The claim made by online sites is that shoppingonline is a safe and secure way to make purchases.The evidence challenges this.In any case,you only have to be the victim of fraud (詐騙) once to experience all the problems that come with this form of stealing.Use only sites that have a trusted history and an excellent reputation.
Another problem is the appearance of items in reality is often quite different from what you see on your computer screen.This might not be a problem if you are buying washing up powder but could be a major disappointment when that beautiful blue dress you ordered turns up in green.Also,product descriptions are sometimes simply untrue.Perhaps the wisest plan is to purchase items where design and color are not essential to customer satisfaction.
Some even argue that online shopping indirectly contributes to global warming.Yes,your car can stay parked but how are online goods delivered?Often by some large vans pouring out carbon monoxide and adding to our already desperate traffic problems.You are also by now becoming increasingly irritated (使煩惱) by the fact that the delivery is late and you have wasted the leave from work you have taken to receive it!
Without question,online shopping is here to stay and it has its benefits.However,perhaps it is not as wonderful as some of its supporters claim it to be.

59.The author lists several questions in Para.1 toD.
A.support online shopping              B.collect answers from readers
C.show his dislike of going shopping       D.introduce the topic of the passage
60.The author agrees with the fact thatD.
A.customers are never satisfied with online products
B.online shopping is a safe way to make purchases
C.online shopping has nothing to do with global warming
D.delivery delay often makes online shoppers unhappy
61.What is the author's attitude towards online shopping?C
A.Very popular.B.A wise choice.C.Not trouble free.D.A waste of time.
