【題目】In the story of “The crow and the Pitcher” from Aesop’s Fables, a thirsty crow(烏鴉) drops stones into a narrow jar to raise the low level of water inside so he can take a drink.

Now scientists have evidence to back up that story. New Caledonian crows actually do understand how to make water displacement work to their advantage, experiments showed. The results suggest that the birds are, at least in some aspects, as smart as first-graders, according to the study.

Researchers, led by Sarah Jelbert at the university of Auckland in New Zealand, presented six crows with tubes filled with water. Inside the tubes, a worm or piece of meat on a piece of wood was floating, just out of reach of the crow. In front of the tubes, the researchers arranged a bunch of heavy rubber erasers that would sink, and light plastic objects that would float. The crows found out that they could drop the heavy objects into the tubes in order to raise the water level and get their snack.

However, the birds handled awkwardly in experiments in which they could choose to drop objects in either a wide tube or a narrow tube to get a snack, the researchers said. Dropping objects into narrow tube would lift the water level by a greater amount and put the treat within reach after just two drops. In contrast, it took around seven drops to raise the snack to the same level in the wide tube. The crows obviously didn’t realize this, and most of them went for the wide tube first.

Previous studies showed that chimps and human children can solve similar tasks. In a 2011 study, chimps and kids found out that they could put water into a tube to reach a peanut that was floating in small amount of water at the bottom.

1What does the text focus on?

A. Aesop’s prediction B. Crow’s intelligence

C. The development of crows D. Human-animal communication

2How did the crows get the worm in a tube in Sarah’ experiment?

A. By dropping in the heavy erasers. B. By removing the plastic objects.

C. By standing on the wood. D. By breaking the tube.

3What does the underlined part “the treat” in Paragraph 4 refer to?

A. The tube. B. The object.

C. The snack D. The water.

4What did the experiment with wide and narrow tubes show?

A. Crows are sensitive to surroundings.

B. Crows have the ability to recognize shapes.

C. Crows are cleverer than chimps and children.

D. Crows understand water displacement incompletely.

【題目】 The novel coronavirus outbreak has greatly affected the lives of people across the world. It has challenged and changed people' lifestyles. It has also helped us think about our relationships with others.

Changing our lives

①COVID-19 has made people think harder about their relationship with nature. It has also raised questions about urban lifestyles. The sharing economy, working in open offices, living in crowded apartments and the food industry's use of reusable products have made the perfect storm for a pandemic.

②Although the sharing economy might be good it's cheaper to rent than to own sharing spaces and objects are great ways to spread the virus. How does one do “social distancing" when they are expected to share cars, bikes, apartments and even the same offices?

③The trend of using open offices, which can save space, is working against us. In this type of office, workers don't have their own desk - everything is shared. Sometimes, computers and chairs are also shared, which is not hygienic (衛(wèi)生的). Fortunately, more workers are working from home during the pandemic, but that won't last forever.

④Reusability is a common practice in the restaurant industry. Reusable cups and chopsticks are often used. Unfortunately, reusable products increase the chance of spreading disease. For example, Starbucks recently stopped refilling customers' reusable cups in order to stop the spread of the virus.

⑤People like to be social. But the virus has made this more dangerous. We have to be careful about how we interact with others for now. Perhaps we need to rethink about our lifestyles to reduce the spread of future pandemics.

1According to the author, the strong point of the sharing economy is that________.

A.it lasts longerB.it costs less

C.it's popularD.it's hygienic

2Paragraph 4 is mainly about________.

A.how working at home won't last longB.how shared offices can save space

C.the hygienic problems of open officesD.the sharing economy trend

3According to the author, restaurants can spread the virus easily because________.

A.everything is shared in many restaurantsB.they use too much disposable tableware

C.many restaurants have poor hygieneD.cups and chopsticks are often reused

4The author probably agrees that________.

A.we need to change some of our lifestylesB.the sharing economy won't last forever

C.no one can stay out of the sharing economyD.we shouldn't say away from shared products

My dolls were home-made. The first doll I owned it was made of a glass Coca-Cola bottle. I was such excited to make a doll byitself. Soon I became a collector of empty Coca-Cola bottles because I see each bottle as a possible baby doll atthat time. People whom worked in the store selling Coca-Cola could see me pick up empty bottles almost everyday. Those home-made toys brought me a lot of happy.
