Dear Hou Ting,
I am sorry that maths disappoint you, but you can’t give it up.
As you say, it is one of the most important subject and there
is a reason for this. We have to use maths from all the time.
Wherever your career takes you, maths will have to be using.
In fact , most employers and universities will accept people
who have failed or given up maths. All you can do is try your
best in maths and make the most use of time you had. If you
have trouble understand anything, the first person you should
tell is your teacher. That is often surprising how simple things
seem when you are explained properly — even maths problems!

[1]Losing weight is hard enough. Keeping it off is even
harder. Now a new study by researchers at Penn State suggests
that the techniques that work for losing weight aren't
necessarily the same as those that help keep you slim.
[2]First the researchers surveyed over 1,100 people who
had achieved significant weight loss and maintained ( 維持) it.
The researchers identified 36 weight-loss and weight-
maintenance practices that at least 10% of the group used.
[3]Then the researchers conducted a national telephone
survey of overweight people who had tried to lose weight and
keep it off with varying success: about 11% reported
successfully losing weight, and 21% were able to maintain that
loss for at least a year.
[4] The survey found people who ____ did so by
participating in weight loss programs, cutting back on sugar,
eating healthy snacks, not skipping meals and participating in
different types of exercise.
[5]Still,say many nutrition and obesity experts. The basic
principles of weight loss and maintenance are the same; you
have to eat a healthy diet and increase your exercise. People
who lose weight and keep it off tend to eat significantly
healthier foods and do a lot more exercise than the average
American.
[6] But what may maintain between weight-loss and
maintenance is a person's attitude; rather than focusing on
actively losing weight in the short term. People have to start
focusing on long-term, permanent lifestyle changes and
behaviors, if they want to maintain the weight that's been lost.
The key to success, experts agree, is motivation, not
necessarily the particulars of your weight-loss program.

閱讀理解。
One silly question I simply can't stand is "How do you feel?" Usually the question is asked of a man in
action-a man on the go, walking along the street, or busily working at his desk. So what do you expect him
to say? He'll probably say, "Fine, I am all right," but "you've put a bug in his ear"-maybe he's not sure. If you
have a good friend, you may have seen something in his face, or his walk that he overlooked that morning.
It starts him worrying a little. First thing you know, he looks in a mirror to see if everything is all right, while
you go merrily on your way asking someone else, "How do you feel?"
Every question has its time and place. It's perfectly acceptable. For instance, to ask "How do you feel?" if
you're visiting a close friend in the hospital. But if the fellow is walking on both legs, hurrying to catch a train,
or sitting at his desk working, it is no time to ask him that silly question.
When George Bernard Shaw, the famous writer of plays, was in his eighties, someone asked him, "How do
you feel?" Shaw put him in his place. "When you reach my age," Shaw said ,"either you feel all right or you are
dead."
1. The passage tells us that some greetings such as "How do you feel?" _____.
[     ]

[     ]
A. a man working at his desk
B. a person having lost his close friend
C. a stranger who looks somewhat worried
D. a friend who is ill
3. "you've put a bug in his ear" means that you've _____.
[     ]
A. made him laugh merrily
B. given him some kind of warning
C. shown much concern for him
D. made him worry about something
4. George Bernard Shaw's reply in the passage shows his _____.
[     ]
A. cleverness
B. cheerfulness
C. power
D. politeness
