The engineers explained how their new material works. They said when it is put on top of something, two things happen. It cools the object underneath by 8(reflect) the sun's rays back into space. At the same time, the material removes the object's own heat and sends that into the air. An engineer said: "We're excited about the opportunity to explore potential uses in different scientific 9(field)."

癆 team of engineers ___1___(create) a super-thin material that could help keep buildings cool.”

癟he team developed the revolutionary new material, ___2___ is very thin and can cool objects even under direct sunlight.” 疾榉窍薅ㄐ远ㄕZ從句,先行詞是the revolutionary new material,故填which。

not ...nor ...或not...neither... 也不……”,符合語境,故填nor/neither。

故填to run。

There is no doubt that going without sleep for too long makes us feel terrible, and that getting a good night’s sleep can make us feel ready to take on the world. 1 Here are some top tips on getting the most out of the night.

2 You’d better avoid eating any food three hours before bed, as it will lower your blood sugar during sleep and help minimize damage from too much sugar floating around.

Keep your bedroom dark. To get a good night’s sleep, you need a bedroom that is pleasant, inviting and welcoming. 3 This is because the all important sleep-inducing (催眠) hormone melatonin is extremely sensitive to light, and may not be produced optimally (最佳的) unless it’s completely dark.

4 The foundation of good sleep is a comfortable bed. The right mattress (床墊) can make the difference between a refreshing night’s sleep and poor quality sleep resulting in tiredness and fatigue.

Get into a relaxed state. 5 Both of them will help to take the mind off the daytime pressures.

Since the start of the 21st century, studies have linked a lack of sleep to many diseases, such as diabetes and obesity. Taking action now will lead to long-term benefits for you.

A. Take a bath or listen to soft music.

B. Never eat too much before bedtime.

C. Above all, it should be dark.

D. Healthy people value a good night’s sleep.

E. However, not all of us know the best way of getting it.

F. Experts suggest putting away your mobile phone.

Hannah Levine decided she wanted to give hugs to all of the children and families in need at local hospitals.
Because she couldn't give them one by one, Levine, then a sixth-grader, decided she would use her talents(才能) to do the next best thing. She began to knit(編織) hats, scarves, and blankets for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. Her creations also went to Bundle of Joy, a program that provides newborn baby items for families in need, and to Knitting Pals by the Bay, a local organization that provides hand-knitted caps to cancer patients.
“I love to knit, and I thought it would be a great idea to make all these handmade items for kids and adults who need them. It would be like a hug for them,” Levine explained.
Levine started the project about a year ago. “I think it's just really fun to do, and it keeps me busy,” said Levine, now 13.
Once she got started, Levine realized that her project could be much bigger than the goods she was able to produce with just her own hands. So she sent emails to her school and communities(社區(qū)), asking for knitted donations(捐贈物) to the project she named “Hannah's Warm Hugs”. She also posted advertisements at Starbucks and other locations in her area. The warm goods began to gush in.
“It was amazing; more strangers than people she knew started dropping donations at our door,” said Levine's mother, Laura Levine. “We ended up with this huge box of items she was donating.”
The knitted items numbered in the hundreds. Levine made her first round of donations around Hanukkah (an eight-day Jewish holiday in November or December) and later received thank-you letters from the organizations. Levine is still knitting, and she said the project will continue.
“It has turned into a bigger thing than she had thought,” her mom said. “It made her feel pretty good; it made us feel pretty good.”

I really love my job because I enjoy working with small children and like the challenges and awards from the job. I also think my work is important. There was a time when I thought I would never have that sort of career.
I wasn't an excellent student because I didn't do much schoolwork. In my final term I started thinking what I might do and found I didn't have much to offer. I just accepted that I wasn't the type to have a career.
I then found myself a job — looking after two little girls. It wasn't too bad at first. But the problems began when I agreed to live in so that I would be there if my boss had to go out for business in the evening. We agreed that if I had to work extra hours one week, she'd give me time off the next. But unfortunately, it didn't often work out. I was getting extremely tired and fed up, because I had too many late nights and early mornings with the children.
One Sunday, I was in the park with the children, and met Megan who used to go to school with me. I told her about my situation. She suggested that I should do a course and get a qualification(資格證書)if I wanted to work with children. I didn't think I would be accepted because I didn't take many exams in school. She persuaded me to phone the local college and they were really helpful. My experience counted for a lot and I got on a part-time course. I had to leave my job with the family, and got work helping out at a kindergarten.
Now I've got a full-time job there. I shall always be thankful to Megan. I wish I had known earlier that you could have a career, even if you aren't top of the class at school.
(1)What is the author's present job?
A.Working part-time in a college.
B.Taking care of children for a family.
C.Helping children with their schoolwork.
D.Looking after children at a kindergarten.
(2)When staying with the two girls' family, the author ________.
A.was paid for extra work
B.often worked long hours
C.got much help from her boss
D.took a day off every other week
(3)Why did the author leave her first job?
A.She found a full-time job.
B.She was fed up with children.
C.She decided to attend a part-time course.
D.She needed a rest after working extra hours.
(4)What has the author learned from her own experiences?
A.Less successful students can still have a career.
B.Qualifications are necessary for a career.
C.Hard work makes an excellent student.
D.One must choose the job one likes.
