Dear editor,
I am Evan from Canada. Being the oldest child in the family has its disadvantages. First of all, I have to share all my toys with my young sisters. Of course, they don't need to return to the favor because I'm total uninterested in their things. Besides, they are always hanging around me. I just can't get moment's peace. At meals, I have to eat whichever is on the plate regardless of the taste. My sisters only try one bite if it's not our favorite food. In addition, when it comes to practice our musical instruments, I have to practice more than double the time. Worst of all, I got a larger quantity of housework. Comparing to them, I'm feeling rather annoyed. Can you please give me some advices?
Yours truly,
Evan Smith

③total→totally

④get后加a

⑤whichever→whatever

⑥our→their

⑦practice→practicing

⑧got→get

⑨Comparing→Compared

⑩advices→advice

⑥our→their 考查代詞。本句中their指代my sisters。

⑧got→get 考查時態(tài)。

短語compared to....

When US musician Bob Dylan was announced as the winner of this year's Nobel Prize for literature last month, many people took to social media to suggest that Leonard Cohen was the only other living songwriter who deserved(值得)the honor.
Sadly, on Nov 7, the deep-voiced Canadian artist died at the age of 82.
Many tributes(稱贊)were written for Cohen, who had just released his 14th album, You Want It Darker, on Oct 21st. “Leonard Cohen is as important today as he was in the 1960s,” Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on in a statement. “ His ability to describe human emotion made him one of the most influential and lasting musicians ever.”
Cohen's most famous song, Hallenlujah, in which he compared physical love to a need for spiritual connection, has been recorded hundreds of times by different musician since it was first released in 1984.
And Cohen's song Bird on a Wire(1969) could be considered a perfect epitaph(墓志銘)that he wrote for himself. As the song's first line goes, “Like a bird on a wire, like a drunk in midnight choir(合唱團), I have tired in my way to be free.”
“Cohen writes words that explain what it means to be human. I've read poetry that has as much beauty as Cohen's work, but in the world of music, Cohen is a rarity,” US singer Jennifer Warnes told Austin American-Statesman newspaper. ‘He describes things that go on inside a heart and what it feels like to be here.”
Along with his spirituality, Cohen's dry, deep voice also helped his popularity. In 2006 he spoke with the NPR radio station about how he got his interesting voice—apparently it was “500 tons of whiskey and a million cigarettes.”
But he never forgot to work on the instruments that made up his songs, even though he was most famous for his lyrics (歌詞)and voice.
“There is no difference between a poem and a song,” Cohen said in 1969 interview with the New York Times newspaper. “Some were songs first and some were poems first and some were written at the same time. All of my writing has guitars behind it, even the novels.”
“When people talk about Cohen, they fail to mention the melodies(旋律), which to me, along with his lyrics, are his greatest genius,” Bob Dylan told the New York magazine.” They give a lift to every one of his songs. As far a I know, no one comes close to this in modern music.”
(1)What do Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan have in common?
A.They have both written beautiful lyrics.
B.They have both achieved outstanding things in literature
C.They both came from the same country
D.They were both considered the possible winners of Nobel Prize in literature.
(2)People often speak highly of Cohen for many things except for_____.
A.his voice

A.Hallenlujah is the most performed song in the world
B.Bird on a Wire was written to describe Cohen's personality

Everyone needs to be safe, loved and to have a sense of belonging. These are inborn and natural basic needs. In an effort to have these needs satisfied, many of us tend to please others. And it works for a while. We find that we experience less conflict with others, but the conflict within ourselves grows.Saying "no" produces feeling of guilt and saying "yes" brings anger.

My father was in the military,so we moved frequently.Being shy,I didn't make friends. What's more,I grew up in a household where grades, image and how others saw our family were very important. In our household a "C" was unacceptable,a "B" should have been an "A" and an "A" meant the lesson was too easy.I was too skinny,my sister was too fat and my brother's lips and ears were too big for his tiny head.

To stop pleasing others is easier said than done. It's a long process, one in which I am consistently working to perfect. The turning point for me came shortly after I got married. The very first thing we did to end the cycle of catering to others was develop our own identity as individuals and then as a couple. And then we developed a strong set of core(核心)values and a vision for our future. The third and one of the most valuable things we did during this process was develop our own personal influence on others and we valued deeply the opinions of the wiser and more successful people around us.

Besides,we should understand that sometimes helping people actually hurts them.Struggle is necessary to success.Struggle strengthens character, making people determined. So sometimes allowing people to struggle is the best thing you can do for them.

A. Satisfied B. Angry.

A. He grew up doing a lot of housework.

B. It was hard for him to adjust to the moving life.

In 1905, as part of his Special Theory of Relativity, Albert Einstein published the point that a large amount of energy could be released from a small amount of matter. This was expressed by equation E = me 2(energy = mass times the speed of light squared). But bombs were not what Einstein had in mind when he published this equation.
In 1929, he publicly declared that if a war broke out he would “refused to do war service, direct or indirect…” His position would change in 1933, as the result of Adolf Hitler's coming into power in Germany.
Einstein's greatest role in the invention of the atomic bomb was signing a letter to President Franklin Roosevelt urging that the bomb be built because some physicists feared that Germany might be working on an atomic bomb. Among those concerned were physicists Leo Szilard and Eugene Wigner. But Szilard and Wigner had no influence with those in power. So in July 1939 they explained the problem to someone who did: Albert Einstein. After talking with Einstein, in August 1939 Szilard wrote a letter to President Roosevelt with Einstein's signature on it, which was delivered to Roosevelt in October 1939.
Germany has invaded Poland the previous month; the time was ripe for action. That October research of a-bomb began but proceeded slowly because the invention of the atomic bomb seemed distant and unlikely. In April 1940 an Einstein letter, ghost-written by Szilard, pressed the researchers on the need for “greater speed”.
As the realization of nuclear weapons grew near, Einstein looked beyond the current war to future problems that such weapons could bring. He wrote to his friend about his fear about the future use of the a-bomb.
The atomic bombings of Japan occurred three months after Germany gave in.
In November 1954, five months before his death, Einstein summarized his feelings about his role in the creation of the atomic bomb: “I made one great mistake in my life… when I signed a letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made; but there was some justification---- the danger that the Germans would make them”.
(1)What can we learn about Szilard and Wigner?
A.They were not as influential as Einstein.
B.They were responsible for the invention of nuclear weapons
C.They had cheated their friend Albert Einstein.
D.They had an intention to destroy the world.
(2)We can conclude that Einstein ___________.
A.was important in the development of atomic bomb
B.was not involved in the invention of atomic bomb
C.directly participated in the invention of the atomic bomb
D.helped with the invention of atomic bomb
(3)The best title for the passage would be __________.
A.A Story of Albert Einstein
B.Albert Einstein and the Atomic Bomb
C.It was Unfair for Einstein
D.How the Atomic Bomb was Invented
