There is an old Spanish saying which states, "Tomorrow is often the busiest day of the week." How many times have we put off our dreams until tomorrow? 【1】 We have to go for them now!

·Tomorrow is not promised.

Nobody likes to talk about death, but everybody is going to die at one point. None of us know the day or the hour. 2 Don't go to your tomb with unrealized dreams. Make the decision to go after every dream, big or small right now.

·3

One of the biggest dream killers is fear. Many people could have achieved amazing things if only they weren't afraid. Just think about all the things you've wanted to do, but allowed fear to convince you that you weren't capable, or good enough. Fear is not real. It is a product of thoughts you create. Choose not to let fear stop you from achieving your dreams.

·Take action to realize your dream.

You can dream about writing a great play but it's never going to happen unless you actually put pen to paper. You can dream about finding a cure for cancer, but it will never happen unless you actually become equipped with the necessary tools to find that cure. 4

·Possibilities are waiting on you.

There are so many amazing opportunities and people waiting on you. How do you get to them? Simple! Follow your dream. 【1】 You'll never see those doors if you sit around waiting on a dream to happen, instead of actually working to make it happen.

A. Don't let fear win.

B. In other words, dreams don't work unless you do.

C. Our dreams should not, and cannot wait.

D. Therefore, today is all we have.

E. You'll be much happier if you go for it.

F. You were born into the world with a unique gift, which nobody can copy.

G. Doors that you couldn't imagine open up when you go after what you want.

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

It is generally believed that money can’t buy happiness. However, that may not be always true. According to a recent article, in the last few years, new research has given us a far deeper understanding of the relationship between what we earn and how we feel. Broadly speaking, people with higher incomes are happier than those who struggle to get by. But it also shows you need to spend wisely if you expect those bank notes to put a smile on your face. 【1】

1. Buy experiences, not material goods.

In a recently published study, Professor Ryan at San Francisco State University in the US, found that when people don’t have much money to spare, they tend to stick to material goods. 2 But they actually provide both more happiness and more lasting value.

2. 3

No matter how much money you spend on something and how special that product is, you will get used to having it over time and lose interest in it. With the same money you spend on one big object, you can buy many little things. Buying small things means you can get frequent small pleasures.

3. Be sure to buy time.

4 For example, that big house in the suburbs may seem like a good idea, but a 2014 study by researchers from University of Zurich in Switzerland found that people with longer time on the way reported lower life satisfaction, all other things being equal.

4. Try giving it away.

Elizabeth Dunn, professor at the University of British Columbia in Canada, found that in nations as diverse as Canada, South Africa and Uganda, giving away money consistently made people happier. 5

A. Be sure to buy what you like.

B. Here are some ways to better spend your money.

C. Buy lots of little things, rather than one big thing.

D. There are a lot of reasons someone might buy something.

E. People think experiences only provide temporary happiness.

F. This was even true when people giving away were relatively poor.

G. Consider how the things you buy will affect how you spend your time.

【題目】In my eyes, the most basic and powerful way to communicate with another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention. And especially if it’s given from the heart. When people are talking, there’s no need to do anything but receive them. Listen to what they’re saying. Care about it. Most times caring about it is even more important than understanding it. Most of us don’t value ourselves or our love enough to know this. It has taken me a long time to believe in the power of simple saying “I’m so sorry,” when someone is in pain.

One of my patients told me that when she tried to tell her story people often interrupted to tell her that they once had something just like that happening to them. Her pain became a story about themselves. Eventually she stopped talking to most people. We connect through listening. When we interrupt what someone is saying to let them know that we understand,we move the focus of attention to ourselves. When we listen, they know we care.

I have even learned to respond to someone crying by just listening. In the old days I used to reach for the handkerchiefs, until I realized that passing a person a handkerchief may be just another way to shut him down,to take them out of their experience of sadness. Now I just listen. When they have cried all they need to cry, they find me there with them.

This simple thing has not been that easy tolearn. It certainly went against everything I had been taught since I was very young. I thought people listened only because they were too shy to speak or did not know the answer. But now I know that a loving silence often has far more power to heal than the kindest words.

【1】What does the author value most in the communication with each other?

A.Deep understanding.

A.she didn’t get enough respect from others

B.people often told her their own opinions

【3】If you hand a handkerchief to someone crying, you may________.

A.stop him from letting out his sorrow

B.make him embarrassed

C.encourage him to continue to cry

D.hurt his feelings

【4】Which of the following might be the author’s opinion about communication?

A. Just listen. B.Keep silent.

C.Be careful. D.Tell your own story.

【題目】Girls should take part in competitive sport to build confidence, the leader of a group of girls' schools will argue this week. Helen Fraser, director of the Girls Day School Trust (GDST), will tell the group that sport can help girls cope with failure.

“All girls and not just the sporty ones should take physical exercise”, Ms Fraser will say. Research that girls are far less active than boys is worrying, she argues. Ms Fraser will tell the group that she backs "sport for all". "That's why I love it when our schools have A, B ,C and D teams and beyond", she will say.

The GDST draws on research from the Women's Sport and Fitness Foundation which suggests only a quarter of girls in England meet basic levels ( 水平)of activity each week. One in five girls do no activity at all, twice the proportion (比例)of boys, the research suggests.

Ms Fraser says other research suggests that more than 80% of women business leaders played sports while growing up. She uses the examples of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, once a skater and tennis player, while the head of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, was in the French national swimming team. Ms Fraser says Olympic medallists like Jessica Ennis, Katherine Grainger and Nicola Adams are excellent role models for young women but says women's sport needs more money and more news reports..

Valerie Dunsford, head of Sheffield High School, part of GDST, said it was important to offer a large number of sports to attract different types of girls. "Not everyone wants to be out playing the hockey (曲棍球)", said Ms Dunsford.

【1】Which of the following ideas would Ms Fraser agree with?

A. Those taking part in the sport are always failures.

B. More should be done to make girls do sports.

C. Girls are less confident than boys.

D. Boys are born to be sport lovers.

【2】What’s the proportion of boys who never take exercise?

A. 1/10 B. 1/4 C. 1/5 D. 2/5

【3】Ms Fraser mentions those famous women to show ________.

A. hard work will pay off

B. it’s not easy to be great

C. sport can help girls to succeed

D. it’s necessary to balance work and sport

【4】What should be done to make more girls do sports according to Valerie Dunsford?

A. Giving more money to them.

B. Providing more sport classes.

C. Offering different kinds of sports to them.

D. Reporting more about famous sportswomen.

【5What’s the purpose of the text?

A. To explain the key to success.

B. To show the importance of sport.

C. To introduce more games to girls.

D. To encourage more girls to do sports.
