An emotional reunion has been 75 years in the making. Two WWII 1 (survive) , 87-year-old Morris Sana and 85-year-old Simon Mairowitz, are cousins 2grew up together in Romania. The boys had been the best friends until the war broke out in 1940, which led to both families 3 (flee) the country in separate directions.

Since the cousins had no way of communicating with each other after they fled their home nation, both of 4assumed that the other had fallen victim to the war. While Sana ended up settling down in Israel, Mairowitz and his family built a new home in the UK.

Decades later, Sana’s daughter began using the Internet 5 (track) down and befriend all of her father’s long-lost cousins and family members. When she told her dad that his beloved cousin 6 (find), a meeting between the two was set up. Sana’s granddaughter Leetal Ofer recorded their reunion and published the footage to Facebook. In the video, Sana and Mairowitz are 7(tearful) hugging each other and 8 (express) their gratitude for the meeting. 【題目】 Something’s happening at the lowest point on our planet.

The Dead Sea, a salt lake bordered by Jordan to the east and Israel and Palestine to the west, is shrinking at an alarming rate - about 3. 3 feet per year, according to the environmentalist group Eco Peace Middle East. And human actions are largely to blame.

"It's not just like one country is punishing the Dead Sea: it's more like the whole area,” said photographer Moritz Kustner, who visited the area in February to work on his series "The Dying Dead Sea”.

The Dead Sea needs water from the other natural sources surrounding it, such as the Jordan River basin. But around the 1960s, some of the water sources it relied upon were diverted. Israel, for instance, built a pipeline during that time so it could supply water throughout the country.

Mineral extraction industries are another main reason the water levels are falling, experts say. The Dead Sea's minerals have been used as medicine and can often be found in cosmetics and other consumer products.

And then, of course, there's the Middle East's hot, dry climate, which makes it difficult for the lake to replenish itself. Last year, Israel and Jordan signed a $900 million deal in an effort to keep the Dead Sea's water levels stable. It includes building a canal from the Red Sea to the Dead Sea which would be able to not only supply water to Israel and Jordan but also to pump water into the Dead Sea.

But for now, Kustner shows us that the Dead Sea remains very much a place of interest, with people from all over the world going there to swim in its salty waters

The Dead Sea, known as the Salt Sea in the language of Hebrew, is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world. And because of what has been happening over the years, the salt is only getting saltier.

2What can we learn about the Dead Sea 's minerals?

A.They have practical value.

B.They are controlled by Israel.

【題目】 People who are at your age, like your classmates, are called peers (同齡人). When they try to influence how you act or to get you to do something, it's called peer pressure.1

Some kids give in to peer pressure because they want to be liked, to fit in or because they worry that other kids might make fun of them if they don't go along with the group.2The idea that everyone's doing it can influence some kids to leave their better judgment or their common sense behind.

3But you can do it. Paying attention to your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.

It can really help to have at least one other peer or friend who is willing to say 'no' too.4It's great to have friends with values similar to yours. If you choose friends who don't use drugs, smoke cigarettes or lie to their parents, then you probably won't do these things either, even if other kids do.

Even if you're faced with peer pressure while you're alone, there are still things you can do. You can simply stay away from peers who pressure you to do things you know is wrong.5Better yet, find other friends and classmates.

A.Just believe in yourself.

B.You can tell them 'no' and walk away.

C.Peer pressure is not always a bad thing.

D.This makes it much easier to overcome peer pressure.

E.It's something everyone has to deal with - even adults.

【題目】 Reading a book can enlarge the imagination, support independent thinking and widen a person’s world. Writing a book can do even more. Educators now are using book-writing to help students develop creativity and a love of reading at an early age.

Holly Karapetkova writes children’s books and teaches literature at Marymount University in Arlington. She says she is happy that her 8-year-old son K.
