The age of technology is a great and convenient thing, but it does have effects on us in many different ways.

It causes long-term memory loss. Thanks to Baidu, we don't really have to remember much of anything. Questions are answered at the drop of a hat because Baidu is all-knowing! Is that a good thing, though? People aren't digging through their brains anymore to find answers. Here's the good news: we can still exercise our long-term memory by simply thinking before we Baidu. If we don't want to go down that road, we can search Baidu for some memory games to play. Turn Baidu into an asset instead of an enemy.

It makes us lack patience. Baidu gives us what we want. Everything is instant. In fact, if we have to wait for even a handful of minutes for anything, we start losing our minds. This idea of instant satisfaction carries through to many other aspects of our lives, too, like when we go out to eat, drive in traffic, or even deal with workplace accidents. Instead of using Baidu to lessen our anger, try searching for some mindful meditations (沉思).Focus on our breath and realize everything doesn't have to move at lightening speed. We can actually listen to some peaceful spa or meditation music on our Pandora, too!

It wastes our time. Be honest, how much time are we spending on Baidu every day? Whether we're doing research for our own personal needs, buying clothing, or writing a research paper, we all spend a ton of time on the trusty Internet. Are we always being efficient with this time? For the sake of our precious time, if we haven't used Baidu Drive, we should. Keep spreadsheets, text docs, PDFs, slideshows, and even recordings exactly where we can easily find them. Keep a running list of websites we know we'll revisit.

Overall, things are different these days. Yes, there are noticeable negative side effects because of the Baidu invasion, but we don't have to fall into that trap. Stay sharp and don't let ourselves become imprisoned doing the Baidu god's bidding.

第二段“Thanks to Baidu, we don't really have to remember much of anything 多虧了百度,我們不必記住太多東西。以及劃線句的下句“because Baidu is all-knowing! ...People aren't digging through their brains anymore to find answers.” 由于百度無所不知,只要百度,立刻就有答案,可判斷“Questions are answered at the drop of a hat”是指問題可以馬上得到回答。因此“at the drop of a hat”意為立刻,故選B。

根據(jù)第三段“It makes us lack patience. Baidu gives us what we want. Everything is instant. In fact, if we have to wait for even a handful of minutes for anything, we start losing our minds. This idea of instant satisfaction carries through to many other aspects of our lives, 這使我們?nèi)狈δ托。

根據(jù)第四段“Are we always being efficient with this time? For the sake of our precious time, if we haven't used Baidu Drive, we should.

第一段“The age of technology is a great and convenient thing, but it does have effects on us in many different ways.” ...Here's the good news: we can still exercise our long-term memory by simply thinking before we Baidu. If we don't want to go down that road, we can search Baidu for some memory games to play. Turn Baidu into an asset instead of an enemy.” 第三段“It makes us lack patience. ...Instead of using Baidu to lessen our anger, try searching for some mindful meditations (沉思).Focus on our breath and realize everything...” 第四段“It wastes our time. ...For the sake of our precious time, if we haven't used Baidu Drive, we should. Keep spreadsheets,...Keep a running list of websites we know we'll revisit 它浪費(fèi)我們的時(shí)間。 最后一段做了總結(jié) Yes, there are noticeable negative side effects because of the Baidu invasion, but we don't have to fall into that trap. Stay sharp and don't let ourselves become imprisoned doing the Baidu god's bidding.

第二段“Thanks to Baidu, we don't really have to remember much of anything 多虧了百度,我們不必記住太多東西。以及劃線句的下句“because Baidu is all-knowing! ...People aren't digging through their brains anymore to find answers.” 由于百度無所不知,只要查找百度,立刻就有答案,可判斷“Questions are answered at the drop of a hat”是指問題可以馬上得到回答。因此“at the drop of a hat”意為立刻,故選B。

On March 25, 2010, Kate and David Ogg heard the words every parent fears: Their newborn son wasn’t going to make it. Their twins—a girl and a boy—were born two minutes apart and 14 weeks premature, weighing just over two pounds each. Doctors had tried to save the boy for 20 minutes but saw no improvement. His heartbeat was nearly gone, and he’d stopped breathing. The baby had just moments to live.

“I saw him gasp (喘氣), but the doctor said it was no use,” Kate said. “I know it sounds stupid, but if he was still gasping, that was a sign of life. I wasn’t going to give up easily.”

Still, the Sydney couple knew this was likely goodbye. In an effort to treasure her last minutes with the tiny boy, Kate asked to hold him.

“I wanted to meet him, and for him to know us,” Kate told Today. “We’d resigned ourselves to the fact that we were going to lose him, and we were just trying to make the most of those last, precious moments.”

Kate unwrapped the boy, whom the couple had already named Jamie, from his hospital blanket and ordered David to take his shirt off and join them in bed. The first-time parents wanted their son to be as warm as possible and hoped the skin-to- skin contact would improve his condition. They also talked to him.

When Anne Glancey, a retired school teacher, received notice from the city of Hamilton Township that she would be fined up to $3,000 per day for code violations(違規(guī)) and repairs that needed to be made to her home, she didn't know what to do.She did not have the money to pay for the repairs, and she had no family or friends she could ask for help.

The only contact she regularly made with others was with her neighbors of five years,Adam and Kristin Polhemus. Anne showed the-letter to them which explained that she needed to scrape() and paint her house, remove the abandoned and rusted car in her yard, and cut the grass. These were three violations in total, each with a fine of no mote than$1 ,000, per day,per violation.Anne had grown up in the house, and the letter made her upset. She didn't know what she was going to do and she couldn't do this herself.“Anne, we'll help you get this fixed,”Adam said.

Kristin posted a call for help and volunteers to help make repairs and paint Anne's house on Facebook. Her post read as follows:

Hamilton area friends! Are you free for a few hours this weekend? We need you! Adam and I could use your help for some painting at the home of our elderly neighbor, Anne. As you know, she received a heavy fine and she's on a deadline to scrape and repaint her home to avoid the fine. She's limited in funds and the physical ability to do the work, and we'd love nothing more than to show her we care. We really do need your help; we only have a few people right now and we're hoping for about 20 volunteers to make this happen. THANK YOU!
