Stamp collecting is easy when you do it as a hobby. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on it. Sometimes stamps can be got from many sources (來源) for free.
Getting Started
If you have no stamps at all,you might want to buy a packet of 500 or 1,000 different worldwide stamps from a hobby shop or stamp dealer to get started. One good choice is eBay. Try entering phrases like “worldwide stamps” in the search box. However, even if you want to specialize in collecting stamps,my advice is not to spend much money on stamps in the beginning. Start off collecting stamps from many sources for free until you have collected enough stamps and had enough experience.
Sorting Stamps
Assume(假設(shè)) you have some stamps and they are on paper. Before you take them off the paper, you should sort the stamps, for example,by country. This is because dealing with stamps is much easier when they are on paper. When you take them off the paper, they become easy to bend, crease, and tear easily.
Trimming(修剪)Stamps
Never try to take a stamp off its paper backing by pulling at it,even if it appears to be loose enough to do so. First, trim the paper around the stamp with a pair of sharp scissors making sure not to cut off the edge of the stamps. I suggest that you leave a quarter inch safety area from the edge of the stamp when you trim the paper before you are good at doing it.
1.This passage is written for people who________.
A. have no money to collect stamps
B. want to sell their stamps
C. want to collect stamps

2.According to the writer,at the very beginning,stamp?collecting beginners shouldn’t________.
A. collect common stamps
B. borrow some stamps from their friends
C. act as an inexperienced collector
D. spend a lot of money in buying stamps
3.What does the writer suggest NOT do when trimming stamps?
A. Pull at them to take them off the paper backing when they look loose.
B. Trim the paper around the stamp with a pair of sharp scissors.
C. Leave a quarter inch safety area from the edge of the stamp.
D. Make sure not to cut off the edge of the stamps.

In Michael Morpurgo’s novel War Horse, the horse is not only the principal character, he is the teller of his own story.
Set in England and France 100 years ago War Horse tells the story of Joey, a handsome young horse who strikes up a close relationship with Albert, the teenage son of Joey’s owner. But war breaks out and they are separated and plunged into the horrors of the war in France. Both survive and are finally reunited after a remarkable series of events seen through the eyes of the splendid war horse, Joey.
The following cutting comes from near the beginning of the book.
It was some months later, on the way back from cutting the grass in Great Field that Albert first talked to us about the war. His whistling stopped in mid-tune. “Mother says there’s likely to be a war,” he said softly. “I don’t know what it is about—something about some old duke(公爵) that’s been shot at somewhere. Can’t think why that should matter to anyone, but she says we will be in it all the same. But it will not affect us, not down here. We will go on just the same. At fifteen I am too young to go, anyway—well, that’s what she said. But I tell you, Joey, if there is a war I’d want to go. I think I’d make a good soldier, don’t you? Look fine in a uniform, wouldn’t I? And I have always wanted to march to the beat of a band. Can you imagine that, Joey? Come to that, you’d make a good war horse yourself, wouldn’t you. If you ride as well as you pull, and I know you will. God help the Germans if they ever have to fight the two of us.”
One hot summer evening, after a long and dusty day in the fields, I was having my dinner, with Albert still rubbing me down with straw and talking on about the plenty of good straw they’d have for the winter months when I heard his father’s heavy steps coming across the yard towards us. “Mother,” he shouted. “Mother, come out, Mother. It is war, Mother. I have just heard it in the village. Postman came in this afternoon with news.”
1.Who is the teller of the cutting?
A. Michael Morpurgo. B. Joey.
C. Albert. D. Albert’s mother.
2.Which of the following is the right order?
a. The war broke out.
b. Alert and Joey were reunited after their survivals of the war.

d. Alert and Joey were plunged into the war and were separated.
A. c. a. d. b B. d. a. b. c
C. d. c. a. d D. c. d. a. b
3.As for the coming war, Mother said that ________.
A. their village would get involved very soon
B. Albert was not grown up enough to join the army
C. the old duke’s death maybe meant nothing to them
D. both Albert and Joey could be tough fighters
4.Which of the following best describes Albert according to the cutting from War Horse?
A. Imaginative but frightened. B. Quiet but thoughtful.
C. Determined but cold. D. Childish but brave.

科目:高中英語 來源:2017屆四川省成都市9校高三第四次聯(lián)合模擬英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解
The 2016 Oscars, the 88th Academy Awards, once again thrilled people around the world, including the Chinese, who were excited about Leonardo DiCaprio winning the Best Actor Award.
But the annual carnival also put Chinese filmmakers in an awkward position, as no Chinese film makers ever pocketed a golden trophy(獎(jiǎng)杯). The hard truth leaves people wondering when the nation, which is already the second largest film market, will earn a place in the well-known award ceremony’s spotlight.
There are good reasons to be optimistic about such an ambitious outlook.
First, China is one of the fastest growing film markets in the world, attracting abundant capital from home and abroad, which will attract more talented people to get into the industry. Latest statistics showed Chinese cinemas took a record of 6.87 billion yuan (about $ 1.05 billion) in ticket sales in February, with the monthly box office overtaking that of North America for the first time.
The achievement, which may be repeated in the future, has led to thinking that China’s annual box office could go on to surpass(超過) North America as soon as 2017. As capital rushes into the Chinese film industry, fierce competition is expected. The creativity and quality of homegrown movies, two outstanding shortcomings compared with Hollywood productions, will be improved.
Second, Chinese culture and stories have provided a rich source of inspiration for domestic(國(guó)內(nèi)的) productions. For example, the most popular animations in China are the Kung Fu Panda series and Monkey King films. Once they master cutting-edge film technology and improve narration(敘述), Chinese film makers could see their potential released. Also showing promise is the younger generation of filmmakers, who are born after 1970. With more professional and international training compared with their predecessors(前輩), such as Zhang Yimou, they are equipped to make breakthroughs.
Young directors, who often travel to the United States and Europe for seminars and award ceremonies, are also more familiar with Hollywood productions. This being said, no one can predict the exact year when a homegrown film will surprise the world greatly. Patience is gold for domestic filmmakers.
1.Why do Chinese filmmakers feel awkward, according to the passage?
A. Because China has never earned any film award in the world.
B. Because Leonardo DiCaprio won the Best Actor award of the Oscar in 2016.
C. Because Chinese film makers have never won a golden trophy of the Oscar.
D. Because Chinese wonder when China will be the largest film market in the world.
2.In the author’s opinion, what are the reasons for Chinese filmmakers to win an Oscar in the future?
① China can raise capital from home and abroad.
② The creativity and quality of Chinese movies have been improved.
③ Film makers can find a rich source of inspiration from Chinese culture and stories.
④ The younger film makers, receiving international training, are more professional.
A. ①②③ B. ②③④
C. ①②④ D. ①③④
3.According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. The record in monthly ticket sales has overtaken that of North America in the past few months.
B. Kung Fu Panda series and Monkey King films are the most popular animations in China now.
C. Zhang Yimou, who is familiar with Hollywood production, will win an award at Oscar.
D. A Chinese film is certain to surprise the world greatly in the Oscar of 2017.
4.What is the implied meaning of the underlined sentence, according to the passage?
A. Chinese filmmakers still have a long way to go.
B. Oscar awards can provide gold chances for domestic filmmakers.
C. Hollywood is a great place for filmmakers to achieve their dreams.
D. It is certain that young directors are in the gold periods of filmmaking.
