One possible version:

Boys and girls,

We high school students do have some growing pains, but we can get rid of them correctly and wisely. First, some of us are upset about their body styles and looks. It’s unnecessary and it’s not important at all. We needn’t care about it. It is one’s inner beauty that matters. Second, we sometimes seem to be misunderstood by our teachers, parents and classmates. Facing this, we can find a proper time to have a heart-to-heart talk with them, trying to remove the misunderstanding. Some of us have fewer friends. I think being open-minded and friendly will do you good. Third, we may fall behind others, which makes us stressed. Actually we can encourage ourselves to work efficiently, full of determination. Last, some of us don’t have much pocket money, so they feel unhappy. Isn’t it strange? So long as we have some, that’s enough. And we can learn to spend money!

That’s all. Thank you

Can it be true that Australian men spend more time during the week brushing their teeth than they do alone with their children?

A new study from the University of New South Wales has discovered that during the working week, Aussie fathers only spend an average of just over a minute each day alone with their children.Australian mothers, on the other hand, spend three hours a week looking after their children — a much

greater disparity (懸殊) than in other countries like America, Denmark, Italy and France, where couples divide the child-care more evenly.

These findings will upset those who want to shake off the perhaps unfair image of Australia as a land of old-fashioned male chauvinism (大男子主義).

According to the study, Australian fathers appear to like the fun aspects of parenthood, but shy away from the drudgery. So while they tend to be happy taking the kids to the park or to sports events, they are unlikely to participate regularly in feeding, bathing, or taking the kids to school. In short, parenting is seen as a woman's job and a man's hobby in Australia.

Many people believe that in Europe the last twenty years have seen the arrival of the so-called "new man" — the man who is willing to share the housework and child-care.The "new man" never misses his children's school plays and he always gets home in time to read their bedtime story.Indeed, a questionnaire conducted in the UK indicated that almost 70 of British women thought that men were as good at raising children as women.

That's something for Aussie men to think about while they are brushing their teeth!

68.The underlined word "drudgery" refers to ______.

               A.enjoyable activity       B.easy job    C.social responsibility   D.boring work

        69.In Australian parenting, ______.

A.both fathers and mothers take it as a hobby

B.neither fathers nor mothers spend enough time on child-care

C.parents don't share the same amount of child-care

D.fathers don't like the kids at all

70.The passage says that the "new man" would ______.

A.go home right after work           B.spend more time on their work

C.read stories to their children    D.do all the housework

71.According to the passage, Australian fathers should

A.spend more time with their kids    B.know more about their family

C.learn from their wives          D.stay at home longer

The reasons for a person’s becoming an alcoholic have often been debated by psychologists and other scientists. But recent studies suggest that the problem of alcoholism(酒精中毒) should also be the focus of investigation by biologists.

While such things as hard jobs, boredom, and unhappiness can lead to alcoholism, researchers at a prominent university have found that there may also be a genetic factor involved in alcoholism. In the study, children of alcoholic parents were surveyed. The result showed that the children of alcoholic parents were more likely to become alcoholics themselves than were children of non-drinking parents.

This evidence in itself is not conclusive(令人確信的)about anything. After all, it may be the constant exposure(接觸)and easy access to alcohol that cause the children of alcoholics to become alcoholics themselves. But there is more evidence. The study found that children born of alcoholic parents but raised by non-drinking foster(撫養(yǎng)的)parents also were susceptible to alcoholism. This group of offspring(后代)was more likely to take up drinking than youngsters who were born of and raised by non-drinking parents.

Other evidence found in the study suggests that environment does not play as important a role in the development of alcoholism as had been previously thought. The study found that the likelihood of alcoholism was better predicted from the characteristics of the parents than from such environmental characteristics as type of job or level of income.

        63. What is the main point of the passage?

        A. To describe the environment in the development of alcoholism.

        B. To study the psychological factor in the development of alcoholism.

        C. To describe how the children of alcoholic parents become alcoholics themselves.

        D. To describe the close link between genetic make-up and alcoholism.

        64. According to the passage, what can bring about alcoholism?

        A. Biologists’ investigation.                       B. Non-drinking parents.

        C. Hard jobs, boredom and unhappiness.             D. Foster parents’ raising.

        65. According to the findings of the study, who would be the most likely to become an alcoholic?

        A. A person who had a hard job.

        B. A person who was born of alcoholic parents.

        C. A person who was raised by drinking foster parents.

        D. A person who was born of and raised by non-drinking parents.

        66. According to the passage, what should the problem of alcoholism be treated as?

        A. A psychological problem.

        B. An environmental problem.

        C. A biological problem.

        D. An educational problem.
