【題目】 Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid is used to grilling guests on the sofa every morning, but she is cooking up a storm in her latest role—showing families how to prepare delicious and nutritious meals on a tight budget.

In Save Money: Good Food, she visits a different home each week and with the help of chef Matt Tebbutt offers top tips on how to reduce food waste, while preparing recipes for under 5 per family a day. And the Good Morning Britain presenter says she's been able to put a lot of what she's learned into practice in her own home, preparing meals for sons, Sam, 14, Finn, 13, and Jack, 11.

1細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)文章第一段Good Moring Britain’s Susanna Reid is used to grilling guests on the sofa every morning, but she is cooking up a storm in her latest role—showing families how to prepare delicious and nutritious meals on a tight budget.

In Save Money: Good Food, she visits a different home each week and with the help of chef Matt Tebbutt offers top tips on how to reduce food waste, while preparing recipes for under 5 per family a day.

根據(jù)文章中 prepare delicious and nutritious meals on a tight budget 在資金緊張的情況下,準(zhǔn)備可口且有營(yíng)養(yǎng)的飯菜; how to reduce food waste, while preparing recipes for under 5 per family a day 如何減少食物浪費(fèi)同時(shí)給每日生活費(fèi)低于5英鎊的每個(gè)家庭準(zhǔn)備食譜 ; how cheaply we can make this food ourselves 我們自己做這種食物有多便宜; less expensive but still tasty recipes不貴仍然可口的食譜。因此中心思想就是如何用較少的錢做出好的食物,Cooking Well for Less符合文章中心思想,適合做標(biāo)題,故選D。

【題目】 Nick Prosser, a 28-year-old New Zealander, has been stuttering (口吃) for as long as he can remember, but he recently discovered that speaking in an Irish accent makes his speech disorder disappear

The young New Zealander claims he discovered the simple cure to his stutter completely by accident, while trying different accents with a friend for fun. When he tried the Irish accent, both he and his friend were amazed that his stutter almost vanished. They were able to have a long conversation without him stuttering at all, which had never happened before. He just couldn’t believe that something so simple could be the cure to a problem that had seriously affected his self-confidence ever since he was a child

“I couldn’t believe it. I had been to so many speech therapists who never suggested this technique, Prosser said

Interestingly, Nick has never been to Ireland, but he believes that speaking in an Irish accent comes naturally for him because of his mother, who comes from an Irish family. He suggests that people suffering from similar speech disorders try looking at their genealogies (家譜) and attempt to speak in an accent associated to them. However, local speech specialist Annette Stock said she had never heard about this technique

“We know as speech language therapists that singing certainly helps with people that have stutters but you can’t just go around singing in your everyday life, Stock said.” I think that this is something that works for, him and that’s fine. But in six months’ time if it is still working I would be saying wow that’s amazing.

So why does the Irish accent make Prosser’s stutter disappear? No one knows for sure, but Ants Haines, who has been Nick’s barber for years, has an interesting theory: he claims that this way, the 28-year-old spends more time thinking how to pronounce the words, which somehow helps

1Which of the following can replace the underlined word “vanished” in paragraph 2?

A.Erupted.B.Worsened.

C.Disappeared.D.Functioned.

2What happened to Nick Prosser after he tried the Irish accent?

A.He turned to his friends for their help.B.He had more faith in himself.

C.He took pride in his language ability.D.He went to speech therapists for advice.

3How did Annette Stock react to Nick Prosser’s suggestion?

A.She doubted it.B.She tried to prove it.

C.She was confirmed of it.D.She was amazed by its effect.

4What does Ants Haines intend to tell us?

A.His relationship with Nick.B.His idea of the end of Nick’s stutter.

C.His convince in Nick’s learning ability.D.The influence of speaking different accents.

【題目】 Hard work really does pay off. Scientists find that perseverance (堅(jiān)持不懈) leads to better grades and higher achievements in school.

“Being passionate (熱情的) is not enough to ensure academic success,” says researchers, who thought of “courage” as a key to success. This is also regarded as effort in reaching long-term goals, and determination to continue one's efforts in spite of hardships.

Researchers think that the finding could help create new training to help children develop the skill and help ensure their future success.

Researchers from the Academy of Finland studied more than 2,000 students from Helsinki. They were followed through their academic career from 12 to 16, the sixth grade until the ninth grade in local school years. Researchers found that the factor that best predicts courage was related to goals, with previous academic achievements playing no role in developing the skill.

Professor Katariina Salmela-Aro, who led the study, said, “Courage means a young person is really interested in his or her studies and does not give up easily. A key element of courage is high perseverance when facing difficulties and hardships. The important finding is that these factors are the key to success and well-being. Our study shows the power of courage.”

Professor Salmela-Aro also thinks it is important to develop new practices and qualities to improve courage in teenagers. She added, “Young people should see everyday school work as part of their life in a broader context and establish achievable goals for themselves. Schools must also serve as a place where it is safe to fail and learn to deal with setbacks. One must not be discouraged by setbacks, but draw strength and new energy from them!

1What can we learn about the research?

A.It takes at least three years.B.It helps students make progress.

C.It makes many discoveries.D.It follows 2,000 students abroad.

2What should students do according to the researchers?
