I finished my last work of the week and could hardly wait to get home, take off my nursing shoes, and relax.
As I approached(走近) my 36 , I saw one of my 37 standing by the bus stop. I thought it would only take a couple of extra minutes to give her a ride home, and besides, it was 38 cold to be standing outside on the coldest 39 in January. I didn’t know where she lived, but I was 40 I would be able to find my way back.
We 41 about our work as I drove and before we knew it, we arrived at 42 house. I started driving back. 43 looked familiar, but at first that didn’t bother me. But soon I 44 something wrong. I 45 nothing. But I told myself to stay 46 .
I was beyond neighborhoods, streets and 47 streetlights. I no longer knew where I was now. How could I be so stupid! I looked down at my 48 . It was now 2:30 a.m. My gas was slowly running out. I 49 the car and turned off the engine. In total defeat, I put my head down on the wheel, 50 . Then I raised my head and 51 a shadow down the road in front of me. I turned my headlights on. A car! I drove a little 52 .got out of my car and knocked on the window of that car. An elderly man 53 rolled his window down.
I said that I didn’t know how to get back into town. In silence, he started driving. I ran back to my car and drove 54 him. Finally I recognized a(n) 55 street. As I turned to head home, the car disappeared. Then I pulled into my driveway (車道) when the warning light for my gas tank (汽油箱) turned on.
Though so many years have passed, I still thank the old man from my deepest heart.

About a month ago I was present at a solemn occasion--the reading of a will. I can remember one passage that particularly struck me. It ran something 1 this:“And I direct that £500 be 2 to old William B, whom I have wished to help for many years, 3 always put off doing so.”
It was the Voice of Opportunity 4 written by Beyond. But the story doesn't 5 there. When the lawyers came to 6 out the bequest (遺贈(zèng)), they discovered that old William B had 7 too, and so the 8 deed was lost.
I felt rather 9 about that. It seemed to me a most regrettable 10 that William would not have had his £500 just 11 somebody kept putting 12 giving it to him. And from 13 accounts, William could have done with the 14 . But I'm 15 that there are thousands of kindly little deeds waiting to be 16 today, which are being put off“ 17 later”.
George Herbert, in praise of good intentions, 18 that“One of these days better than 19 of these days.”But I say that 20 is better than all.

Good afternoon, and welcome to England. We hope that your visit here will be a pleasant one. Today, I would like to draw your attention to a few of our laws.
The first one is about drinking. Now, you may not buy alcohol in this country if you are under 18 years of age, nor may your friends buy it for you.
Secondly, noise. Enjoy yourselves by all means, but please don't make unnecessary noise, particularly at night. We ask you to respect other people who may wish to be quiet.
Thirdly, crossing the road. Be careful. The traffic moves on the left side of the road in this country. Use pedestrian crossing and do not take any chances when crossing the road. My next point is about litter(throwing away waste material in a public place). It is an offence to drop litter in the street.
When you have something to throw away, please put it in your pocket and take it home, or put it in a litter bin. Finally, as regards smoking, it is against the law to buy cigarettes or tobacco if you are under 16 years of age.
I'd like to finish by saying that if you require any sort of help or assistance, you should contact your local police station, who will be pleased to help you.
Now, are there any questions?
The main purpose of this speech would be to ______.
A. prepare people for international travel
B. declare the laws of different kinds
C. give advice to travelers to the country
D. inform people of the punishment for breaking laws
How many laws are there discussed in the speech?
A. Three. B. Four. C. Five. D. Six.
From the speech we learn that ______.
A. in this country, if you are under 18 years of age, you may not buy alcohol, but your friend can buy it for you
B. you may not buy cigarettes or tobacco unless you are above 16 years of age
C. because the traffic moves on the left side of the road, you must use pedestrian crossings when crossing the road
D. you can't make noise except at night
