Dear classmates,

It is a pleasure for I to have a chance to make a short speech today. Recently I had found that some of our classmates study late into the night and do not spare some time to take a rest during the day either. They often cannot help fall asleep in class. And some classmates seldom have breakfast, that is also a bad habit and will surely do harm to our health.

In my opinion, it is extreme important for us to have enough sleep and a proper diet. We must learn to make a use of our time, and only in this way can we keep fit or study well. I wonder if you agree me.

As is often the case, when people are attending meetings, having meals or waiting for buses, you can always find it addicted to their phones, completely ignore others.

This is really a common phenomenon in our life. The reason is because smart phones nowadays can be used for people to play mobile games but keep in touch with friends through QQ and Wechat. However, too many exposure to phones is bad for people in term of health. Moreover, people who were engaged in phones fail to communicate well those around them.

As far as I'm concerned, people should wise make use of their phones to help with their work and study. Meanwhile, they should be care more about their family members and friends rather than mobile phones.

【題目】 If you were to travel anywhere in the globe— even to visit remote tribes (部落人) who have little contact with the larger world — would people be able to read your emotions from your facial expressions and would you be able to read theirs?

Charles Darwin argued in The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals that basic facial expressions are universal — suggesting that they are hard-wired within us as the product of natural selection. In other words, you would know if someone looked happy, or sad, etc., wherever you were in the world.

Since Darwin’s day, researchers have, indeed, traveled to faraway corners of the world to test the “universality theory”. Paul Ekman, professor of psychology at UC San Francisco and inspiration for the TV show Lie To Me, reported that even Fore tribesmen of New Guinea could look at photos of people from other cultures and identify what emotions were displaying.

Since Ekman’s work, other papers have tested the universality theory and occasionally challenged it. Rachael Jack of the University of Glasgow and co-authors used computer graphics to produce facial animations (動(dòng)畫). They then showed these animations to 15 Western Caucasian people far away from countryside and 15 East Asian from modern cities. They were asked to divide the facial expressions into groups.

This is what they found: They did get six groups from the Western Caucasians. But the results between emotion groups from the East Asians were complexed. They believe this suggests modern cultural factors have a greater influence than before.

1Charles Darwin held the view in his book that ________.

A. facial expressions are understood by all

B. facial expressions are easy to read

C. man and animals share the same emotions

D. some facial expressions can cause confusion

2According to the third paragraph, Fore tribesmen of New Guinea ________.

A. were confused by the photos

B. read the facial expressions in wrong ways

C. could recognize the basic facial expressions

D. had different facial expressions from city people

3Since Darwin, all papers have tested the “universality theory” and _______.

A. no authors have agreed

B. all authors have found the same results

C. some papers have been lost

D. some authors have expressed different ideas

4Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?

CPcentral point P1-P3: Point 1-Point 3 SP sub-point C: Conclusion

A. B.

C. D.

【題目】Grandma Pugh sized up the baby like a pig at the farmers’ market. There was a pause and then she pronounced. “He’s got nice long legs.” She clapped her hands once in approval. But then she frowned and leaned forward. Everyone waited anxiously. The baby had opened his eyes and was staring up. “But those cross eyes won’t do,” she declared firmly, shaking her head in disappointment.

That had been Freddie Pilcher’s first meeting with Grandma Pugh. Since then, ten years had passed. Much to his grandmother’s satisfaction, she’d been proven right about the boy’s legs. He was a regular beanpole. Grandma Pugh had also been correct about his eyes. Freddie had been wearing glasses to correct his vision since he was two years old. His current pair was thick, and cheap-looking, but at least he could see.

Freddie not only had poor eyesight, but he was also clumsy. He wasn’t good at schoolwork either. But there was one thing that the boy was good at and it was all on account of the length of his legs. He could jump.

Freddie was the best jumper in school. Not only could he leap the furthest but also the highest. At breaktimes, he entertained the little ones by leaping over the school wall into Mrs Hobson’s garden and then rapidly jumping back. She had been up to see the head teacher several times because somebody had been crushing her vegetables.

It was badgers (獾), Freddie suggested, when quizzed by Miss Harpy — definitely badgers; no doubt about it. His dad had terrible problems with badgers. Only last week he had lost two rows of carrots. Freddie had woken one night and heard them tearing through the garden, a whole herd of them. They rooted up the lawn and dug up the vegetables. Terrible things, badgers. All the other children nodded their heads wisely. There was a moment’s pause in Class Three as everyone thought about the dreadful damage that badgers could do.

1What do we know about Grandma Pugh?

A. She was present at the birth of baby Freddie.

B. She was unwilling to listen to the ideas of others.

C. She was a figure of great importance in the family.

D. She valued physical appearance over all other things.

2Why did Freddie jump over the school wall?

A. To annoy his teacher.

B. To escape from school.

C. To amuse his schoolmates.

D. To damage Mrs Hobson’s vegetables.

3Which of the following best describes Freddie’s physical appearance?

A. B.

C. D.

4Why does Freddie talk about badgers in the final paragraph?

A. To explain the cause of the damage.

B. To warn the class about their danger.

C. To describe what happened to his father’s garden.

D. To make up an excuse for the cause of the damage.

【題目】 Have you ever picked a job based on the fact that you were good at it but later found it made you feel very uncomfortable over time? When you select your career, there's a whole lot more to it than assessing your skills and matching them with a particular position. If you ignore your personality, it will hurt you long-term regardless of your skills or the job’s pay. There are several areas of your personality that you need to consider to help you find a good job. Here are a few of those main areas;

1) Do you prefer working alone or with other people?

There are isolating jobs that will drive an outgoing person crazy and also interactive jobs that will make a shy person uneasy. Most people are not extremes in either direction but do have a tendency that they prefer. There are also positions that are sometimes a combination of the two, which may be best for someone in the middle who adapts easily to either situation.

2) How do you handle change?

Most jobs these days have some elements of change to them, but some are more than others. If you need stability in your life, you may need a job where the changes don't happen so often. Other people would be bored of the same daily routine.

3) Do you enjoy working with computers

I do see this as a kind of personality characteristic. There are people who are happy to spend more than 40 hours a week on a computer, while there are others who need a lot of human interaction throughout the day. Again, these are extremes and you'll likely find a lot of positions somewhere in the middle as well.

4) What type of work environment do you enjoy?

This can range from being in a large building with a lot of people you won't know immediately to a smaller setting where you'll get to know almost all the people there fairly quickly.

5) How do you like to get paid?

Some people are motivated by the pay they get, while others feel too stressed to be like that. The variety of payment designs in the sales industry is a typical example for this.

Anyway, these are a great starting point for you. I've seen it over and over again with people that they make more money over time when they do something they love. It may take you a little longer, but making a move to do what you have a passion for can change the course of your life for the better.

1What is unnecessary in your job hunting?

A. Assessing your skillsB. Going to different areas

C. Matching your skills with a positionD. taking your personality into consideration

2Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Isolating jobs usually drive people mad.

B. Interactive jobs make people shy easily.

C. Extreme people tend to work with others.

D. Almost everyone has a tendency in jobs.

3What does the underlined sentence in paragraph one mean?

A. Before you select your job, you should assess your skills and match them with your position

B. There are more important things than assessing skills and match them with the position when you select job.

C. Nothing is important than assessing skills and match them with the position when selecting job.

D. You should ignore your skills when you select job.

4What is the missing word about a job search in the following chart?

A. Design.B. Changes.

C. Cooperation.D. Hobbies.

5What is the best title for this passage?

A. Lifestyles and Job PayB. Jobs and Environment

C. Job Skills and AbilitiesD. Personalities and Jobs
