Last week I went to visit to my former neighbor, Mr. Yang . He and I used to living next to each other for many years. About half a year ago, an order came which the old building , along with many other similar ones, were going to be pulled down to make room for a main street.

So I had to move apart. Mr. Yang now lives in the suburb near a beautiful park. His new apartment is much big than before. The only problem is that it took quite a long time to get to the downtown area. Therefore, Mr. Yang doesn’t seem to worry about the long distance. He says that new subway line is to be built in a few year and he is sure life will be better in the future.

He started Alibaba in his Hangzhou apartment, with 17 friends and $60,000 of funds. At the time, when e-commerce was unheard of in China, “I called myself a blind man riding on the back of blind tigers,” he once said, according to The Guardian. His unusual ideas earned him the nickname “Crazy Jack Ma”.

Indeed, Ma is different. Although he is very thin and about 160cm tall, “Ma is yet animated and forceful, said The Guardian. “He is funny, creative, and a compelling (引人注目的) speaker.

Ma told Time magazine that he was “old for the Internet”. He started to slow down and looked around. 【題目】Why was Bastille important to the citizens of Paris? The building of the Bastille had been started in 1370 under Charles V. By the seventeenth century, it had stopped to be important for defense. Cardinal Richelieu turned it into a prison. It was not an ordinary prison to punish common crimes. Its huge doors closed only on enemies of the King. The Bastille's workings were secret. 【題目】Excused from recycling(回收利用)because you live in a high rise with a rubbish chute(垃圾滑道)? You_won't_be_for_long. Miami's Mark Shantzis has made it simple for those living in tall buildings to use the chute and recycle too.

In Shantzis' HiRise Recycling System, a chute leads to pieshaped container with six boxes that can turn around when operated. The system, which fits in the same space as the chute and container now in use, enables glass, plastic, paper, metal and other rubbish to go into separate boxes.

The system is controlled from a board fixed next to the chute door. The board has a button for each class of recycling materials(as well as for un-recyclables). At the press of a button, a microcomputer locks all other floor's chute doors and sets the recycling container turning until the right box comes under the chute. The computer also counts the loads and gives a signal by phone when the box is full. And a particular piece of equipment breaks up the nonrecyclables.

Sorting(分類)recyclables before they are collected saves the use of expensive materials recovery equipment which otherwise has to do the sorting. Such equipment often makes recycled materials very expensive, so expensive that tons of recyclables remain wasted! Shantzis believes his system could help recycled materials become more costeffective.
