One day I was in the back yard teaching my little nephew how to play football. He said that play football was something easier. His words instantly bring back memories of my childhood. Like a little boy, I told my uncle I wanted to become football star like him. However, he taught me how to kick the ball. After some practice, I told him it was hard for me to kick the ball the way he kicked them. He talked to me about not giving up on how I really wanted to do. Thank to his guidance and encouragement, and I’ve turned football star in my school.

【題目】 Oliver Radtke believes Chinglish mistranslations may be fun, but are not to be made fun of. “My message on Chinglish is: It should be conserved (保存). It shouldn’t be treated as a cheap joke for foreign tourists to laugh at but as a cultural treasure,” said the 32-year-old multimedia designer, who frequently visited China for almost a decade before moving to Beijing in 2007.

“I’m trying to challenge the idea that there is only one type of standard English the English that’s spoken in America or in the British Isles which is shortsighted, because Chinglish is already being used by millions of people to communicate with one another.”

So, since 2005, he has collected more than 5,000 examples of “the wonderful results of an English dictionary meeting Chinese grammar” on his website www.chinglish.de and has published two books on the subject.

“The two books are unique in that they talk about the academic value of Chinglish, the creative combination of English and Chinese, and why we should keep it,” Radtke said.

Patricia Schetelig, who works for the German Embassy in Beijing and regularly contributes to www.chinglish.de, said she appreciates Radtke’s approach to Chinglish.

“What’s important to me is that he’s not making fun of the way things are translated,” said she. “There are other websites doing similar things, but they’re making fun of Chinglish or saying it shouldn’t be done this way.”

Part of his mission, Radtke said, is to conserve rapidly disappearing Chinglish examples.

He was disappointed while watching the government replace Chinglish signs with standard English ones in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics. “That was a sad day for me and a sad day for Chinglish,” Radtke said.

But American David Tool, who has been closely involved in cleaning up Chinglish in Beijing since 2001, disagreed.

“Chinglish takes away from the aesthetic (美學(xué)的), educational and cultural value we want these signs to provide,” said Tool, “We get distracted when we’re trying to explain something. It’s not dealing with the issues with respect.”

【1】Which of the following statements does Radtke agree with?

A. Chinglish will gradually disappear as years go by.

B. Chinglish is invented to amuse foreign tourists.

C. Chinglish will be treated as a cultural treasure.

D. Chinglish is actually a variety of English.

【2】The two books are unique because it involves the following EXCEPT ________.

A. the academic value of Chinglish

B. the creativity of the Chinese people

C. the meaning of keeping Chinglish

D. the creative combination of English and Chinese

【3】It can be inferred that David Tool and Radtke ________.

A. disagree on Chinglish signs

B. have both lived in China for nine years

C. once argued face to face about Chinglish

D. both have much knowledge of Chinese culture

It has been three years since I start learning English. At first I found its quite difficult. I couldn’t pronounce words well, spell correct and remember the rules of grammar. With the help of my teacher, I have made a great progress. Now I am getting well with my English. Three years’ study have taught me that one cannot learn English well with hard work. We must do more listening and speaking both in and out of class. We must also do more reading or writing as well. What is known to all, “Practice makes perfect.” That’s the most important thing. Besides, we should also practice use it as much as possible.

Outside stood a tall man wearing a black raincoat and black rubber boots. He said he was a salesman and asked politely if out mother or father was at home.

【題目】I am a sophomore (大二學(xué)生) at Princeton University, where I am majoring in chemical engineering. I chose to study at UCD in the spring of 2015 primarily because I have always been interested in Ireland and Irish culture, but also to take advantage of UCD’s courses in pharmacology (藥理學(xué)), a field not offered at my home school. I also chose UCD because of its Introduction to Scientific Research module, which matches visiting students with professors for a term-long research project, and because of the Science office’s friendliness and helpfulness. I am convinced that I made the best possible decision!

While at UCD I lived on campus, which allowed me to throw myself into everything the university has to offer. I was given the opportunity to work with Geraldine Butler’s lab. I loved it so much that I ended up heading to the lab almost every weekday, whenever I wasn’t attending my always-interesting classes in pharmacology. After lab, I enjoyed a variety of after-school activities—that was certainly a new experience for me.

Living in Dublin provided a great opportunity for seeing the rest of Ireland and Europe. I spent my weekends and spring break traveling to every corner of the island, amazed at all of the history and natural beauty. I was also able to visit the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark and Sweden. After every trip, it was nice to return to friendly Dublin and head out with my roommates to one of our favorite pubs.

I would highly recommend studying abroad at UCD. I learned so much from my courses and my research project and had a wonderful time exploring Ireland. I can’t wait to come back!
