【答案】As a tour guide, I find it so embarrassing to see some tourists behave badly while traveling. They speak loudly in public places, carve characters on tourist attractions, throw rubbish, spit everywhere, and even cross the road when the traffic lights are still red. Such bad behaviors have caused damage to people’s image.

Measures should be taken to stop this. First, tourists should be strict with themselves and learn to obey social and public order, and respect local religions and customs. Besides, kindergartens and primary schools should do more to teach the kids to be responsible citizens. Last, laws should be made to punish those who behave badly in public places. I hope soon tourists will change their behavior and win respect for themselves.

One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa, I try to read just like you do, but I don’t understand most of it, and I forget whatever I do understand immediately I close the book. So what good is it for me to read?”

The grandfather, who was putting coal on the fire, said, “Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water.”

The boy did as told to, but the water leaked out before he could get the basket home.

【題目】 Increasing numbers of airports, especially in Europe, are promoting a “silent airport” idea. It is to reduce noise pollution, such as airport-wide announcements, without sacrificing timely and helpful updates of information.

International airports were once characterized by their high voices, competing gate announcements and so on. This is all changing. Angela Gittens, director general of Airports Council International (ACI), says there is a growing desire among airports and airlines they serve to create a calm, relaxed atmosphere without being disturbed by announcements. “Passengers can relax while they wait for their flight to board in the common airside lounges(休閑區(qū)), and food and drink areas,” she says.

In June, Helsinki Airport in Finland—a country where the tourism slogan(口號) is “silence, please”—became the most recent airport to adopt the silent concept. As part of its commitment to quieting things down, announcements for flights are made only in boarding gate areas.

Lost track of time in the shops?

Too bad.

Nobody’s going to call you to your flight, as announcements in all terminals will be made only in exceptional(尤其) emergency circumstances.

Heikki Koski, vice president of Helsinki Airport, says that improved flight information display system and interactive kiosks(交互式自助服務(wù)機), together with advances in mobile technology, are changing the way airports communicate with passengers. At Munich airport, InfoGate kiosks allow for video-based face-to-face conversation with a live customer service representative in the traveler’s language of choice. Interactive signs, on the other hand, give directions at the touch of finger. Passengers can tap a “you are here” display to get directions and approximate walking time to their destinations.

Of course, an airport will never be as silent as a temple. There will continue to be a need for airport-wide emergency announcements along with boarding calls. But at silent airports, the latter can be restricted to specific gates, as has adopted in Helsinki.

1What is Angela Gittens’ opinion on the silent airport concept?

A. It makes airport noise-free.

B. It is intended for passengers’ benefit.

C. It has changed international airports’ reputation.

D. It has encouraged the catering industry in airports.

2What should passengers pay close attention to at Helsinki Airport?

A. Their boarding time.B. Finland’s tourism slogan.

C. The shop’s opening hours.D. The “you are here” display.

3Why is Munich Airport mentioned in the text?

A. To show its popularity.B. To introduce Infogate kiosks.

C. To prove Heikki Koski’s words.D. To be compared with Helsinki Airport.

4What is the best title for the text?

A. Silence, please. This is an airport.

B. Can airports be as quiet as temples?

C. Silent airports all around the world.

D. Technology helps airports become interactive.

【題目】You often find somebody who works around you complaining all the time, don’t you? 1. About 70% of Americans say being around nonstop complainers sometimes has a bad influence on them. Luckily, here are 4 tips to help form positive patterns.

Self-awareness

When a negative thought pops into your mind, immediately correct it. Instead of telling yourself “That’s a nice shirt, but I can’t afford it,” change the message to “That will look great with my black pants when I can afford it.”2.

Of course, everyone complains sometimes. But the less frequently you complain, the better you will feel.

Distance yourself

3. Excuse yourself and go somewhere quiet, somewhere outdoors in the fresh air. Think of something pleasant before returning. You have to take this seriously because negative people can and will pull you into the quicksand (難以擺脫的困境).

Don’t try to change complainers

If you find yourself trapped in a group of complainers in a meeting or at a social event, simply choose silence. Let their words bounce off you while you think of something else. Attempting to stop the complaining can make you a target.4. If someone says, “I hate Mondays; weekends are too short,” try to think, “I’m glad I rested over the weekend, so I’m ready to make some improvement on that big project.”

5

When someone is shouting at you angrily, throw the responsibility back at them by asking, “So what do you intend to do about it?” In most cases, complainers don’t really want a solution. They just want to speak them out. If you make them aware that they themselves have to find the solutions, they will leave you alone and find someone else to complain to. If so, you will be happy.

A. Find solutions

B. Change the responsibility

C. You have got a lot of company

D. By doing this, it will lead to positive behavior

E. But you can redirect the discussion in your own mind

F. Whenever possible, escape from negative conversations

G. You will never know what they are going to talk about

【題目】 Why Ultra-pure(超高純的)Water Is Actually Bad for Your Health Many people are surprised to hear that drinking purified water on a regular, daily basis is actually dangerous. So why is 100% ultra-pure water not good for us? 1

There is no such thing as truly pure water in the natural world. 2When these minerals dissolve(溶解)in water, they form what we commonly refer to as electrolytes(電解質(zhì)).They allow us to perform all the “bioelectrical” functions such as moving, heart-beating, thinking, and seeing.

But pure water fails to provide these fundamental electrolytes. 3You can think of it this wayimagine a room with no gravity, split in half down the middle. You throw a couple hundred balls into the left side of the room. 4 But if you cut a bunch of holes in the barrier, they will slowly start to spread over to the right side. Eventually, they will be evenly distributed across the entire room.

The water in your organs stays at very specific levels of minerals. When you drink ultra-purified water, it pulls the minerals out of your blood just like the right side of the space room pulled some of the bouncy balls over from the left. 5

Purified water can only be recommended as a way of drawing poisons out of the body. Once this is accomplished, the continued drinking of purified water is a bad idea.

A.Purified water is an active absorber.

B.Since there's no gravity, they bounce around everywhere.

C.It actually tries to rob your body of them when you drink it.

D.Even water in the purest lakes contains small amounts of minerals.

E.If you drank enough of it, the lack of minerals would eventually kill you.

F.The simple answer is that ultra-pure water doesn't provide the natural minerals we need#

G.This is why materials tend to move from more concentrated areas to less concentrated ones.
