The other day I happened to meet a young America student in our school. It was the first time that I have met a foreigner, so I went up immediately and greeted him with English. He told me that he was a college student travel in China and he liked China very much. I volunteered to show him around the school. He was deep impressed with the Chinese buildings and was busy taking the photos all the time. He said never had he seen so beautiful buildings. After that, they went boating on the BingXi River and had a wonderful time. I was very glad to have such a good chance to practicing my spoken English.

【答案】

【解析】1.考查形容詞。句意:前幾天,在我們學(xué)校,我恰巧遇見一位美國學(xué)生。形容詞American做定語修飾名詞student。America—American。

2.考查時態(tài)一致和固定用法。句意:那是我第一次見到外國人。表示次數(shù)的用法It was the first time that ……,that句子中過去完成時,故have—had。

7.句意:他說他從沒見過如此美麗的建筑。這里用形容詞such修飾名詞buildings,so—such。

【題目】Consider the tomato: easy to grow, healthy to eat, tasty in just about any recipe and pleasant to look at. And come late summer, in steady supply. Though you can find it during the coldest winter months, August is the tomato's season to shine. Farmers' markets and grocery stores are bursting with lesser-known but arguably tastier varieties, including purple cherries and big heirlooms.

"Heirlooms ripened on the vine(藤) are the tastiest of all tomatoes," says Amy Goldman Fowler, author of The Heirloom Tomato. "I think their beauty is more than skin-deep." Heirloom seeds have been around for at least 50 years, often passed down from generation to generation. You may hear cherry or heirloom used to describe a tomato at hand, but there are many different kinds of tomatoes, and growers have fun giving catchy names to varieties: Mortgage Lifters, Beefsteaks, Oxhearts, Early Girls.

And all of them come with health benefits. Tomatoes are a good source of the antioxidant lycopene (抗氧化番茄紅素), which is thought to help lower a person's risk for heart problems and cancer. Tomatoes also contain healthy vitamins(維生素) A and C. For the best fruit (they're fruits, not vegetables), choose tomatoes with shiny, firm skin and a little give, and store them at room temperature away from direct sunlight. Keep them out of the fridge, since cold temperatures can affect the original taste.

"They satisfy something more than just taste," says Fowler. "Tomatoes feed your soul."

1In which season do tomatoes sell best?

A. Spring. B. Summer.

C. Autumn. D. Winter.

2What can you learn from the passage?

A. Tomatoes are healthy vegetables.

B. Direct sunlight helps to store tomatoes.

C. Tomatoes go bad more quickly in the fridge.

D. Heirlooms are tastier than the other tomatoes.

3Why do tomatoes benefit people?

A. They can produce antioxidant lycopene.

B. They may prevent some diseases.

C. They can be used as medicine.

D. They may make people's skin shiny.

【題目】What Does the Length of Your Fingers Say About You?

Are you the peace-loving type or the ambitious go-getter? Your finger length might be a clue. Take a look at your fingers. Would you believe me if I told you that the length of your fingers in relation to one another can predict your personality? I know that it sounds like one of those silly tests you see on Facebook, but I have to admit that it is exactly correct for me. Here’s how it works.

Look at your three middle fingers of your hand. Is your index finger longer than your ring finger? Is your ring finger longer than your index finger? Or are the two of the same length? Find the situation that best matches your hand and see if what follows is an accurate description of your personality.

Longer ring finger: The Sweet Talker

If your ring finger is longer than your index finger, research shows that you’re likely a charming type, and you can probably talk yourself out of any situation. Others often find this personality type irresistible and will go to great lengths to help you. You’re more likely to take risks, and you’re good at problem-solving. People in this category make great engineers, soldiers and crossword-puzzle solvers.

Longer index finger: The (Over) Confident One

If your index finger is longer than your ring finger, chances are you are full of confidence—possibly even to the point of being over-confident and proud. You are not necessarily introverted (內(nèi)向的), but you do enjoy time to yourself, especially when you’re trying to complete a project. You are a dream pursuer who can make things happen, but you may be shy when it comes to taking the first step in a relationship. You are also probably happy with what you have, but you’re always wishing for more.

Index and ring finger are of the same length: The Peacemaker

If your index finger and ring finger are roughly of the same length, you are likely to avoid conflict at all costs and seek to keep the peace in your relationships. You are well-organized, faithful and sympathetic. But deep down under all of that caring and peace-loving, you also have a hot-tempered side that can appear unexpectedly when you’re pushed too far. You will try your hardest to avoid a fight.

How well do these descriptions match your personality? I was surprised at the accuracy in my case, but I’m not going to tell you which one it was!

1Which of the following hand could be an engineer’s hand?

A. B. C. D.

2We can learn from the passage that the author ______.

A. is very charming and helpful B. always tries hard to avoid a fight

C. often takes silly tests on Facebook D. thinks the descriptions suit him well

3What does the passage intend to tell us?

A. How accurate the description of the test is.

B. The length of fingers can reveal personality.

C. Why your fingers are not of the same length.

D. Personality is determined by your finger length.

4Where can you probably find the text?

A. A popular magazine. B. An official report.

C. A public advertisement. D. A biology textbook.

【題目】Air is an odorless (無氣味的), invisible (看不見的) gas that surrounds the earth. It is everywhere on the planet. An “empty” drinking glass and an “empty” room, to give two examples, are not really empty. Each is filled with air. When the glass is filled with water, the water pushes the air out of the glass.

Air, as a gas, has no definite (明確的) shape, but, because it is matter, it takes up space. It is easy to prove that air is something that takes up space. Stuff a dry handkerchief into the bottom(底部) of a glass so that it will not fall out when the glass is turned upside-down. Push the upside-down glass; hold it straight into a jar of water till the glass is completely covered. When the glass is taken out of water, the handkerchief will be dry. The air inside the glass takes up space and keeps the water from coming in.

1What does the underlined word “Stuff” (in Paragraph 2) mean?

A. Press tightly. B. Take out.

C. Put down. D. Turn fully.

2The writer tells us that _______.

A. the experiment is done in the laboratory

B. the experiment is done outside the room

C. the experiment is easily done

D. the experiment is carried out indoors

3Which of the following pictures gives us the correct result?

(W—water; A—air; H—handkerchief)

A. B.

C. D.

【題目】One of my summertime reading pleasures has been reading C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters for the first time. The Screwtape Letters is written in a satirical style while it is fictional in format. The story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior devil Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood.

As a new generation of property student begins the school year, I thought it would be useful to pass on this comment on the most property adjective, the possessive “my.” In this excerpt(摘錄), a devil named Screwtape is continuing to tutor his nephew on how best to direct and control humans toward “our Father below”:

We teach them not to notice the different senses of the possessive pronoun(物主代詞)—the finely graded differences that run from “my boots” through “my dog”, “my servant”, “my wife”, “my father”, “my master” and “my country”, to “my God”. They can be taught to reduce all these senses to that of “my boots,” the “my” of ownership.

Even in the nursery, a child can be taught to mean by “my Teddy-bear” not the old imagined recipient(接受者)of affection to whom it stands in a special relation (for that is what the Enemy will teach them to mean if we are not careful) but “the bear I can pull to pieces if I like.” And on the other hand, we have taught men to say “My God” in a sense not really very different from “My boots”, meaning “The God on whom I have a claim for my distinguished services and whom I make use of the pulpit—the God I have done a corner in.” And all the time the joke is that the word “Mine” in its fully possessive sense cannot be expressed by a human being about anything. In the long run either Our Father or the Enemy will say “Mine” of each thing that exists, and especially of each man. They will find out in the end, never fear, to whom their time, their souls, and their bodies really belong—certainly not to them, whatever happens.

These “finely graded differences” are often lost in legal conceptions of both real and intellectual property.

1When the author read The Screwtape Letters, he felt ______ .

A. pleased B. dissatisfied

C. puzzled D. scared

2What does the underlined word in the second paragraph mean?

A. scold or blame B. attend or care

C. teach or train D. ask or beg

3Which of the following statements is TRUE?

A. In some degree, “my dog” is equal to “my servant”.

B. The expression “my God” means God belongs to me.

C. Screwtape is a kind of tape with a screw on it.

D. The different senses of the possessive pronoun are often lost in legal conceptions.

When I was young, my mother owned a store, in that she also sold magazines and books. I love to stay in the store, reading everything I found. It failed to help develop my ability to judge a good book, and it helped improve my reading skills. Then my mother began to focus on quality instead quantity. She bought books I wouldn’t find them in her store. Later, as my interest at theater began, I spent most of time read Shakespeare and George Bernard Shaw, to name the few. Anyway, good storytelling opened the window to different worlds I otherwise would have never entered. In additions, when I lived through a difficultly period books became advisers.
