It's difficult to find a piece of clothing as widely accepted, worn and loved the world over as jeans. The classic symbol of the American West is now a main item in wardrobe around the world. But why?
The reason for jeans'success has as much as to do with their cultural meaning as their physical construction.
Invented by Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis in 1873,jeans were first designed as work wear for laborers on the farms and mines of America's Western states in the late l9th century. They proved extremely comfortable and durable(耐用的)and were soon in high demand.
But the first explosion of jeans into world of casual-wear(便裝)had more to do with what jeans had come to symbolize.
When they did start to be worn as casual wear, jeans became a symbol of rebellion-the spirit captured by Marion Brando in his l953 film The Wild One and by James Dean two years later in Rebel Without a Cause,
Jeans were soon banned in schools from coast to coast which only added to the passion with which teenagers embraced them.
But jeans'popularity kept growing also because they put different classes on a level playing field. They were affordable and hard-wearing,looked good worn as well as new,and didn't have to be washed often or ironed at all. They conformed to the body in a way that matched even the most finely tailored clothes. This became especially important for women because then, and now, they paid more attention to fit. This versatility(多用途),the ability to become all things to all people,is the secret to jeans'survival as a wardrobe item.
56.By whom were jeans worn at first?(No more than l5 words)Jeans were worn by laborers on the farms and minesin theAmerica West.
57.What made teenagers across the US like wearing jeans even more?(No more than 10 words)Jeans'being banned或The ban on jeans.
58.What will be the best title for this passage?(No more than 10 words)The Reason for Jeans'Success./Why Is Jeans'Popularity.
59.What does the underlined word"embraced"mean?(No more than 3 words)accepted
60.Do you like wearing jean? Why of why not? Please give at least two reasons.(No more than 25 words)Yes,because they put different classes on a level playing field and they have the ability to become all things to all people..

56.Jeans were worn by laborers on the farms and mines in the America West. Laborers on the farms and mines of America's Western States.
57.Jeans'being banned或The ban on jeans. Jeans were soon banned in schools from coast to coast which only added to the passion with which teenagers embraced them對禁止穿牛仔褲的規(guī)定反而增加了年輕時穿牛仔褲的熱情.
58.The Reason for Jeans'Success./Why Is Jeans'Popularity. The Reason for Jeans'Success./Why Is Jeans'Popularity.
59.a(chǎn)ccepted 猜測詞意題. But jeans'popularity kept growing also because they put different classes on a level playing field牛仔褲越來越受歡迎,說明年輕人非常樂意接受牛仔褲.
60.Yes,because they put different classes on a level playing field and they have the ability to become all things to all people.

Last week,Verizon and Google proposed a plan they say could keep the Internet open while supporting(41)investment in high-speed Internet service.Verizon has the nation's biggest wireless network while Google is the biggest Internet search engine.The proposal was a surprise because the two companies have been on opposite sides of the debate over net neutrality.That is the idea that all content on the Web should be treated equally.Internet service providers want to be able to charge more for heavy Internet traffic or users who want (42)special services.The Federal Communications Commission regulates telephone,cable and satellite communications.But its power to regulate Internet service has been questioned in the courts.The new proposal calls for rules barring service providers from preventing users from sending and receiving (43)legal information of any kind.Users also could not be prevented from (44)linking any application,service or device they choose to the Web.And broadband Internet providers would be (45)prohibited from discriminating against content and would have to be open about their policies.Supporters of net neutrality criticized the proposal for not (46)includingwireless providers.Wireless broadband is among the fastest growing parts of the Internet.Others oppose the (47)creation of a"two-tiered"system on the Internet in which some content gets a fast lane and other content goes slowly.But Daniel Brenner says such a system already exists.DANIEL BRENNER:"In some ways there are two tiers today.In other words,there's the public Internet which we all use for Web surfing,e-mail and sometimes for voice.And then there are managed networks."Daniel Brenner is a partner at the law firm Hogan Lovells in Washington.He says service providers want to be able to charge more because they build networks out to their customers across the country.Such companies are the so-called"last mile"providers.But,the Internet is really a network of networks which exchange traffic all the time and compete with each other.And not all networks reach the last mile to a customer's door.Paul Kouroupas of Global Crossing says his company wants to make sure (48)agreements between service providers are honored on all networks.That way,a service promised by Global Crossing on its fiber optic network will be (49)extended all the way to a customer's door-even if another company carries the service that last mile.The Verizon-Google proposal offers (50)suggestions for a debate that is not likely to end soon.Daniel Brenner says the FCC needs clearer guidelines from Congress.

9.Perhaps a parent's most important contribution toward raising a trustful child is to develop a relationship founded on trust.A child of any age will feel proud and grown-up if parents frequently show their trust.In court a defendant(被告) is innocent until proved guilty.But in the family,a teenager"defendant"is too often assumed guilty.
Even when the child is caught in a complete lie,this should not be the end of trust.A parent can tell a child that a single lie is forgivable.Yet it should be clear that if lies continue,the child,like the boy who cried wolf,will suffer loss of trust.
When my wife and I discovered that our son Tom,then 13,had lied about throwing a party while we were away,we grounded him for a month.We also told Tom that we could no longer trust him,and we could not allow him to stay alone overnight again.This loss of freedom was an important lesson; he learned how hard it is to live with people when they don't trust him.As a result,now more than three years later we can again trust Tom to stay alone overnight.
Parents must always remember there is no easy answer to this universal problem of lying.We can set a good example,allow for privacy,monitor friendship,develop trust and punish wrong doing,but still we discover our child has lied to us.Finally that's why there is a need for trust on both sides of a parent-child relationship.Lying destroys closeness and friendship.For that reason,parents should always try to give a child the feeling that they can be trusted with the truth.Parents may start with a child's trust,but as the child grows older,parents must earn it.

A.parents shouldn't punish their children even if they lie
B.it is not easy to deal with the problem of lying as parents
C.there are effective ways to prevent children from lying
D.children will stop telling lies as they grow up.
