I used to be poor in speaking English. I was too shy to speak in class. Since she teaches us last term, she has been encouraging him to overcome fear and speak out in class. Thanks to her, I have made great progresses. Besides, I practiced several times in the front of her. It was her advice which made me a better speaker and full of confidence. And I owe my success to her.

1. 有the沒the不一樣

in front of 在---前面,in the front of在---前部;in hospital住院,in the hospital在醫(yī)院里; in prison 坐牢,in the prison 在監(jiān)獄里;go to church去做禮拜, go to the church去教堂; go to school去上學(xué), go to the school去學(xué)校;take place發(fā)生, take the place of頂替,代替; in charge of負(fù)責(zé),管理, in the charge of 被負(fù)責(zé);in possession of 擁有,in the possession of被擁有;by sea坐船, by the sea在海邊。

It is/was… who/that結(jié)構(gòu)來突出強(qiáng)調(diào)句子的某一成分(一般是句子中主語,賓語或狀語)。 It is my mother who/that cooks every day. It was yesterday that Tom passed in the maths exam.

It is I who am right. It is he who is wrong. It is the students who are lovely.

2.即使被強(qiáng)調(diào)成分是句子中的時間狀語,地點(diǎn)狀語,原因狀語等,也不能用when,where, because,要用 that.

It was because of the heavy rain that he came late.

It was from him,his chemistry teacher, that Paul learned to watch carefully in class.

It was he that helped me yesterday. It was me that he helped yesterday.

lt was the things and people that they remembered that thy were talking about.

It was three years ago that he went to American for a further study去掉It was that句子為Three years ago he went to America for a further study.

Not only fashion and music are making a return—houses built in 1970s have proven to be better at cutting energy waste than those built today. The tea cosy (茶壺套) design, created in the mid-1970s and built in the early 1980s for low-income people, could provide a blueprint for meeting the Government aims of producing less CO2 from homes.

The 200 houses were designed to provide low-energy housing, and depend on an inner concrete (水泥) structure that holds in heat, protected by highly insulated (隔熱的) setting which produces a “tea cosy” effect. The ordinary-looking houses also depend on more windows on south-facing sides, with northerly facing doors protected by porches (門廊).

A study found the houses are 50 percent more energy efficient than the average home and use a quarter of the average energy for space heating. According to researchers, they use less than two-thirds of the power of homes built to meet 2010 building demands. And they will still be 25 percent more efficient than houses built to even more strict proposed demands for 2013. The design is one of the few that will be able to meet 2016 demands for zero-carbon homes.

They were in the beginning fixed with just one or two gas heaters per home, although most now have central heating, depending on the heat from the sun and high insulation to keep steady temperatures inside the house. To be comfortable, they only need to use heating for three to four months a year, compared with seven months for UK home on average, and can be lived with no heating at all.

With many house builders at present worrying that new homes are going to be much more expensive to build in order to meet the Government’s ambitious targets, thetea cosymodel meets this need perfectly.

A California man who was feeling sick almost died recently from a shocking cause.

26-year-old Luis Ortiz went to a hospital because of a headache and nausea(惡心,作嘔). When doctors examined him, they were shocked to find a tapeworm larva(絳蟲幼蟲) in his brain. The story gets stranger. The larva was still alive.

The creature had caused a cyst(囊腫) to form inside his head. The cyst was restricting the flow of liquids to different areas of his brain. The situation was so serious that doctors said they had to perform an emergency operation to remove the larva.

A doctor who operated on Ortiz told him he had only 30 minutes to live. When the doctor pulled the worm out of his head, it was still moving.

Luis Ortiz was a student at California State University in Sacramento. He began experiencing headaches in late August. But Ortiz said he did not think the headaches were serious.

The doctors saved Ortiz's life. However, the surgery also affected him. Ortiz had to drop out of school and move back home. For now, he is not permitted to work or drive a vehicle.
