【題目】 Ice hockey’s beginning is a little uncertain. It has been tracked back to an Irish game known as hurley by some experts. Others consider ice hockey as having come from lacrosse and field games that were played by Micmac Indians. Still others say that hockey evolved in Northern Europe. At any rate, it is quite likely that ice hockey came into being from different early games played with a stick and a ball.

In the 1850s, the first recorded games of ice hockey were played, and in the 1870s, the first set of ice hockey rules were written by a group of students at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. These rules set up the use of a puck (冰球) replacing a ball and decided the number of players to be nine per team. The year 1880 brought the organization of the first amateur hockey league. Over the next several years, ice hockey’s popularity spread across Canada. It was around 1893 that ice hockey was first played in the United States. There have been several ice hockey leagues. The best known is the National Hockey League, which came into being in 1917 in Canada.

Ice hockey has the oldest sports trophy(獎(jiǎng)杯)in North America. It had become so widespread in Canada that a trophy was presented by the Governor General of Canada to be awarded to the top hockey team. Lord Stanley of Preston was the name of the Governor General, and the trophy became Known as the Stanley Cup.

Not many changes have been made to the initial rules set forth in the 1870s. The main ones have been the decrease from nine players to six and the progression of new and better equipment. In 1910-11, the game changed from two 30-minute periods to three 20-minute periods. In 1943-44, the red line at center ice was introduced to speed up the game. In 2005-06, goalkeeper equipment was downsized.

1When was the first amateur hockey league formed?

A.In the 1850s.B.In the 1870s.

C.In 1880.D.In 1893.

2Where did the name of the Stanley Cup come from?

A.The top hockey team captain.

B.The Governor General of Canada.

C.The oldest sports trophy maker.

D.The leader of the first hockey league.

3How has the ice hockey sport changed?

A.Its initial rules have been given up.

B.It has fewer players on a team.

C.Its total match time has been reduced.

D.It needs much less equipment.

4What’s the text mainly about?

A.The rules of the ice hockey sport.

I am one of your customer. I am unwilling to complain, and your service really annoys me. I order a set of Bookworm Series on your website the other day, but not until yesterday I receive it. Much to my disappointment, the books were so poorly packed up that the cover of one book was torn. To make matters bad, it was not a complete set, as I found one book missed.

I am sorry to have received such poor service. I believe I have every right to ask you to deal with a problem. I hope that you either return my money back or deliver a new set of books to me. Therefore, I’d like to be informed of the process of your dealing with my complain.

Looking forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

【題目】 “Bananas Gone Wild” beats “Potato Parcel” down in terms of the most ridiculous idea according to the vote from net friends. But both of them have proven to be completely successful. While the latter involved sending people messages written on raw potatoes, the former is all about decorating bananas and selling them for $10 every piece.

Davonte Wilson first came up with the idea of Bananas Gone Wild when he worked as a doctor in a hospital. He became popular in the workplace as a guy who spent some of his spare time drawing some faces with strange expressions on bananas, with his co-workers going as far as to play jokes on his special hobby. But it’s Wilson who is laughing all the way to the bank now, as his business is projected to earn him 100,000 dollars.

Wilson works out of his apartment, bringing bananas to life by using markers, fake beards, eyeglasses, moustache stickers and other tools. He then puts them up for sale on his website BananasGoneWild.com. He also gives customers the chance to create their own bananas by choosing the decorations themselves, starting at $9.99.

Wilson admits that he started the business on a whim, and never expected it to be so successful. Now Wilson works on about 75 bananas a day. Once he finishes, he will cover the bananas with plastic wrap(保鮮膜)and take them to the post office to ship out to customers. Wilson points out that his creations are meant to be souvenirs and his website clearly states that the bananas are not meant to be eaten.

When it comes to Wilson’s six figures a year by selling decorated bananas, I think I’m definitely in the wrong business, which is also doubted by my friends who know Wilson’s story.

【題目】閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文續(xù)寫的詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右。

Christmas Day was coming. I was just a kid then, and my big sister told me there was no Santa Claus. I fled to my Grandma because she would be straight with me. I knew Grandma always told me the truth. Grandma was home, and I told her everything. She was ready for me. “No Santa Claus !” She shouted. “Ridiculous! Don't believe it.” That rumor has been going around for years, and it makes me mad, plain mad.

“Now, put on your coat, and let's go.”

“Go where, Grandma?” I asked. “Where” turned out to be Kerby's General Store, the one store in town that had a little bit of just about everything. As we walked through its doors, Grandma handed me ten dollars. “Take this money.” she said, “and buy something for someone who needs it. I'll wait for you in the car.” Then she turned and walked out of Kerby's.

I was only eight years old. I'd often gone shopping with my mother, but never had I shopped for anything all by myself. The store seemed big and crowded, full of people competing to finish their Christmas shopping. For a few moments I just stood there, confused, holding that tendollar bill, wondering what to buy and who to buy it for. I suddenly thought of Bobby Decker, who was a kid with bad breath and messy hair. He sat right behind me in Mrs Pollock's gradetwo class.

Bobby Decker didn't have a coat. I knew that because he never went out for recess during the winter. His mother always wrote a note, telling the teacher that he had a cough, but we kids knew that Bobby Decker didn't have a cough, and he didn't have a coat. I would buy Bobby Decker a coat! I settled on a red one, which looked really warm, and he would like that.

“Is this a Christmas present for someone?” the lady behind the counter asked kindly, as I laid my ten dollars down. “Yes.”

The nice lady smiled at me, put the coat in a bag and wished me a Merry Christmas.

Para 1:

That evening, Grandma helped me wrap the coat in Christmas paper.
