A young ensign (海軍少尉) was given the opportunity to prepare his ship to"set sail".Soon the ship was driven slowly out of the channel.The ensign's efficiency was remarkable.In fact,the talk was that he had set a new record for getting the ship underway.Later he was handed a radio message from the captain.
"My personal congratulations on completing the sail with amazing speed,"it read,"but next time wait until your captain goes aboard before getting underway!"
What good is a ship without the captain? The ensign did all the right things, but he never did the most important thing!
It is a matter of priorities (優(yōu)先).You may accomplish a great deal every day.But are you accomplishing the truly important things?Have you put first things first?
In work and study,in the areas of mental, physical and spiritual health, are you truly doing the important things?
Today, will you put first things first? And how about tomorrow? And the next day? If so,you will one day discover that you are building a life that counts.
以 Put first things first為題,寫一篇讀后感.
1.以約30個(gè)詞概括所讀文章的內(nèi)容;
(1)對該主題發(fā)表你的看法;

重要短語:a matter of priorities(優(yōu)先考慮的問題),be misapprehended by(被誤解),leave sth behind(落下某事),exert great influence on(對某事產(chǎn)生影響),of one's own accord(自動(dòng)的,自愿的),cease to do (停止做某事),upside down(顛倒的,倒置的),with the cart before the horse(本末倒置),illustrate the significance of(闡述…的重要性),give priority to(優(yōu)先考慮),be familiar with(熟悉某事),deal with(處理,對付,應(yīng)付),result in(導(dǎo)致),keep sth in mind(把…

1.Putting first things first is a matter of priorities, which was misapprehended by an ensign who prepared the sailing with remarkable efficiency but left behind the most important thing of having a captain.
Putting first things first is a matter of priorities"."which"在從句中作主語,指代前面整個(gè)主句的內(nèi)容.
2.Whether people put first things first exerts great influence on the process of pushing things forward and even decides the future development.
Whether people put first things first",謂語為"exerts great influence on"和"decides",賓語為"the process of pushing things forward"和"the future development".
3.In the examination for high school,I should have got tens of more marks if I had given priority to the questions I was familiar with.
此處是由虛擬語氣在"if"條件狀語從句中的運(yùn)用,主句結(jié)構(gòu)為"should have done",從句結(jié)構(gòu)為"had done",是對過去情況的虛擬.
4.I can not explain ①why I was so stubborn at that time and was quite illogical ②when dealing with an important examination,③which directly resulted in many questions unfinished, and of course resulted in my failure to enter a key high school.
I can not explain".
I can not explain"."which"在從句中作主語,指代前面整個(gè)主句的內(nèi)容.

解答 Putting first things first is a matter of priorities, which was misapprehended by an ensign who prepared the sailing with remarkable efficiency but left behind the most important thing of having a captain.【高分句型一】(概括)
Whether people put first things first exerts great influence on the process of pushing things forward and even decides the future development.【高分句型二】Things invariably go of their own accord. If the order is misplaced, the whole process is blocked and ceases to be an abstract concept. Therefore,we can hardly imagine how we achieve future development with things upside down, with the cart before the horse.(看法)
My experience vividly illustrates the significance of putting first things first. In the examination for high school,I should have got tens of more marks if I had given priority to the questions I was familiar with.【高分句型三】I can not explain why I was so stubborn at that time and was quite illogical when dealing with an important examination, which directly resulted in many questions unfinished, and of course resulted in my failure to enter a key high school.【高分句型四】(以自己成長的經(jīng)歷說明感受)
I always keep this lesson in mind and promise myself to put first things first this time for the coming NMET examination.(個(gè)人觀點(diǎn))

3.In the past 15years,Chad Pregracke has helped pull more than 67,000tires from the Mississippi River and other waterways across the United States.
But that's just scratching the surface.He's also helped retrieve 218washing machines,19tractors,12hot tubs,four pianos and almost 1,000refrigerators.
For Pregracke,removing this debris-pieces of wood,metal,brick,etc.-has become his life's work.Sometimes called"The Rivers'Garbageman",he lives on a barge (駁船) about nine months out of the year with members of his 12-person crew.Together,they organize community cleanups along rivers across the country.
It's a dirty job,but Pregracke took it on because he realized that no one was doing it.It began as a solo (獨(dú)自的) effort,and over the years his energy and enthusiasm have helped it grow.To date,about 70,000volunteers have joined him,helping collect more than 7million pounds of debris through his nonprofit.
Pregracke grew up in East Moline,Illinois,where the Mississippi River was in his backyard.As a teenager,he worked as a commercial shell diver and began to notice the heaps of debris in the waterway-one that supplies drinking water to 18million people in more than 50U.S.cities.
"I saw thousands of barrels, thousands of tires, cars, trucks and tops of school buses…I got sick of seeing it and just wanted to do something about it,"he said.
Pregracke got a small fund from a company in 1997and spent that summer cleaning a 35-mile stretch of the river by himself.He would transport the trash by boat and sort it on his parents'lawn to be recycled.By year's end,he had single-handedly pulled around 45,000pounds of trash out of the river.
His nonprofit now has a fleet of boats.And while he has resources and know-how,he depends on each community he visits to supply the manpower needed to get the job done.
At the cleanup sites,Pregracke's humor creates cheerful atmosphere-something he knows is necessary for the work that they do.His team uses motivational speeches and music to get the volunteers amped up (陶醉).
"We do everything in our power to get people excited about it,"Pregracke said."We want people to leave feeling good about what they did so they'll contribute more here."
Pregracke views his work as a different kind of service to the country.
"A lot of people call me a conservationist or an environmentalist, but the thing is I'm no different than anybody else,"he said.
Ultimately,Pregracke believes his story is proof that anyone can make a difference:
"If I had one thing to say,it wouldn't even be about rivers necessarily.It would be about finding a cause that's dear to you and taking action."
67.What initially caused Pregracke to clean up the waterway?D
A.People's ignorance of the debris at the bottom of the river.
B.His ambition to become famous throughout the country.
C.Safety problems of sailing boats along the Mississippi.
D.His bad feeling about the source of the drinking water.
68.What can we learn about Pregracke from the passage?A
A.He maintains his cause with the help from society.
B.He aims at recycling what have been found in rivers.
C.He makes a living by cleaning waterways all over the country.
D.He thinks of himself as a conservationist or environmentalist.
69.Why does Pregracke try to create a cheerful atmosphere at the cleanup sites?B
