Michele's efforts paid off.He turned his father's creations into globally sold and consumed products. One of their most successful products, Nutella, had become a staple food in many homes. The third generation now runs the company.Michele's sons, Pietro and Giovanni worked side by side as managing directors for ten years until an accident resulting in Pietro' death.Still inspired by his family and their hard work and determination, Giovanni is guiding Ferrero into the future.

【題目】Directions: After reading the passage below, fill in the blanks to make the passage coherent and grammatically correct. For the blanks with a given word, fill in each blank with the proper form of the given word; for the other blanks, use one word that best fits each blank.

Uh-oh, the new year's just begun and already you're finding it hard to keep those resolutions to junk the junk food, get off the couch or kick smoking. There's a biological reason why a lot of our bad habits are so hard to break – they get1(wire) into our brains.

"Why are bad habits stronger? You're fighting against the power of an immediate reward," says Dr. Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse and an authority on the brain's pleasure pathway.

"We all as creatures are behaving that way, to give greater value to an immediate reward as opposed to 2 is delayed," Volkow says.

How this bit of happiness turns into a habit involves a pleasure-sensing chemicalnamed dopamine. It causes the brain 3(pursue) that reward again and again strengthening the connection each time – especially when it gets the right hint from your environment.

People tend to overestimate their ability to resist temptations around them, thus 4(destroy) attempts to give up bad habits. Even scientists who recognize it 5 show weakness. "I know popcorns are not healthy. But every time I go to the cinema, I have to eat it," Volkow says, "It's fascinating."

A movement to pay people for behavior changes may exploit that connection, as some companies offer employees outright payments or insurance reduction for adopting better habits.

6well paying for behavior plays out, researchers say there are still some steps that may help fight your brain's hold 7 newly-established habits:

Repeat, repeat, repeat the new behavior – the same routine at the same time of day. You decide to exercise. Doing it at the same time of the morning, rather than fitting it in casually, 8 (make) the striatum(終腦皮層)recognize the habit. Therefore, if you don’t keep doing it, you will feel frustrated.

Exercise itself raises dopamine levels, so eventually your brain will get a feel-good hit 9 your muscles protest.

Besides, try to reward yourself with 10 that you really desire. For instance, if you exercise all week or stick to your diet, you could try a fancy restaurant- safer perhaps than a box of cookies because the price inhibits the quantity.

Virginia Bookstore Finds the Secret to Success

A large bookstore in a small U. S. town has succeeded for many years by giving people a chance to buy a lot of books for a low price.

The large and simple bookstore is in the small eastern town of Mount CrawfordVirginia.

The Green Valley Book Fair is made up of two large storage buildings totaling 2, 300 square meters.

Some customers like Zoe Dellinger have been buying books at the store for many years.

“I have been coming here since I was in my early 20s. The thrill of finding a new book is very serendipitous (機(jī)緣巧合的) here because you can’t come and say Fm buying the new Nicholas Sparks book today.’ That’s not what this place is about—this place is about finding wonderful treasures. ”

And those treasures are not costly.

“I found a wonderful book that I wanted. It was very expensive at the time—26 dollars was expensive for me to purchase a new book. I found the book here for five dollars. I was so excited, so that has kept me coming back just to see what treasures 1 11 find. ”

The Green Valley Book Fair has 500,000 new and old books about politics, religion, science, travel, cooking and many other subjects.

Michele Branner is the manager of the store.

“My parents actually started this bookstore about 46 years ago. My dad collected old books and then decided that he wanted to sell some of them. And it went so well that it’s just kind of evolved to what it is today. ”

The bookstore is only open six times a year for three weeks. About 25, 000 people visit during each period. The store sells about $ 2 million worth of books every year.

“We buy our books at a fraction of retail (零售價(jià)的幾分之一) and we can sell them for the prices that we do and keep our overhead low. That’s why we don’t have any fancy buildings or anything like that.”

People have visited the store from many American states and from Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Russia.

Tom Whitlon is from the eastern city of Bristol, Connecticut.

“We have our whole family with us this time. So we said, ‘Oh you gotta see this book fair, ’ and so we brought ’em all here today. It meets every family’s need that likes to read. ”
