【題目】Israel has passed a law banning the use of underweight models in advertising. Known as the “Photoshop Law”, it also requires that agencies tell their audience if they’ve digitally changed pictures to make models look thinner.

The new law forbids the use of models with a body mass index of 18.5 or less, a standard based on internationally accepted measures. The figure matches the set of fixed limits by the U. S. Department of Health.

The law doesn’t set a money amount that can be gained in court from such a suit. Lawmakers realize that it may be a long and difficult process to prove in court that a company broke the new law, but they feel that simply having the law in place will accomplish what they want; stopping advertising companies from continuing to influence Israelis with images of unhealthy-looking models as the gold standard of beauty.

Some modeling agencies in Israel aren’t happy. They say that the indexes on which the law is based are arbitrary (任意的)and are not suitable for every model. Many models who are totally healthy girls might be disqualified because of the law. Some models are naturally thin and unable to gain weight and the new law would unfairly prevent them from finding jobs.

However, plus-size American supermodel Emme told CNN that she thinks the law will cause other countries to make similar measures against showing underweight models. “I think this is fantastic because so many young women and men are suffering to look in a way that is unrealistic and unhealthy,” she said.

1What is “Photoshop Law” about?

A. Banning the use of underweight models.

B. Banning underweight models in advertising.

C. Banning changing pictures digitally.

D. Banning models in advertising.

2The underlined word “suit” in Paragraph 3 means .

A. a set of clothing

B. a group of rooms

C. an action in court

D. a performance in advertising

3What can we know from the passage?

A. All models are happy about the law.

B. All advertising agencies are happy about the law.

C. The law makes no sense.

D. There are arguments over the beauty standard of models.

【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容寫一篇 60 詞左右的內(nèi)容概要。

Whether you’re looking for a quick hotel in the city or a isolated resort in the tropics, where you choose to stay can make or break your vacation experience. But even the most seasoned travelers may not know the difference between the two main types of homes-away-from-home. Besides their first letter, is there any real difference between hotels and motels?

These two types of lodging(賓館) have the same basic purpose—a place for travelers to sleep—but there are plenty of features that set them apart. For instance, they came to be for different reasons, and at very different times. The word “hotel” dates back to the 1600s and comes from a French word, hotel. That word, just like the English one, referred to a place that provides lodging, meals, entertainment, and other services to travelers.

Motels, on the other hand, are a much more recent—and pretty much exclusively American—lodging option. This word dates back to the 1920s and combines the words “hotel” and “motor.” As America’s major highway system developed, so did motels, filling the need for roadside stops for motorists traveling cross-country.

There are also some smaller differences that can help you figure out which type of place you’re in. Hotels tend to be built for longer stays, while motels are geared more for one- or two-night stops along a journey. Because of this, hotels are much more likely to have offerings like lounges, gyms, and entertainment.

So, in the end, it comes down to what you want from your trip and from your lodging. Want the place you stay to be just as much a part of your travel experience as anything else? Opt for a hotel. Just need a place to pop in and out of to shower and sleep? A motel might be the better choice.

【題目】A young, dark haired woman appeared in the doorway.

“Good morning, children! My name is Mrs. Murray. I am replacing your regular teacher,” she said, as she wrote her name on the blackboard. “I will enjoy getting to know each of you personally, over the next few months.”

The children in the class remained silent, as this was totally unexpected.

“Come on, someone say something,” she thought nervously. The children were too quiet.

“This probably won’t last long,” she thought, smiling kindly at them. Grade Three students were normally very lively and seldom, if ever silent. “If you have problems, please come to me. I will help you.”

The children gradually began to relax, but not one of them spoke.

“How can I get them to accept me?” she wondered. Suddenly, she had an idea.

“Your first homework will be to write a new song. To make it even more exciting, challenging and fun for everyone, it must be a new love song for Valentine’s Day. The winner will be awarded a prize, at our class party.”

The children looked amazed, but pleased.

“You may sing your new song, or play it with a musical instrument.”

As if something had suddenly awakened the children, the silence in the room ended suddenly.

“A love song?” a boy asked, smiling sweetly, at his new teacher.

“We each have to write one,” said a dark haired girl, “We never had to do that before.”

“And perform it too!” a red haired boy responded, laughing aloud. “I love it! Me, sing a love song?”

“Want to know what the first prize will be?”

Immediately, every hand in the room went up.

Mrs. Murray reached into her handbag and pulled out a harmonica(口琴).

“What do you think of this?” She waited.

“I am also a music teacher, so I will be able to help you write your new love songs.” added Mrs. Murray, smiling at her new students. Obviously, her smile and intelligent idea about the homework impressed every student in the class.
