Nowadays, Qufu holds memorial events every year 3 (honor) him and popularize his theory to the younger generations.

【答案】

1who/that

2is regarded/ has been regarded

3to honor

故填who/that。

2

考查動(dòng)詞的時(shí)態(tài)和語(yǔ)態(tài)。句意:孔子被認(rèn)為是中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化的一個(gè)標(biāo)志。分析句子可知,句中主語(yǔ)孔子與動(dòng)詞regard是被動(dòng)關(guān)系,且根據(jù)語(yǔ)境,動(dòng)詞時(shí)態(tài)也有兩種可能:一是被認(rèn)為是中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化的一個(gè)標(biāo)志是講述一個(gè)客觀事實(shí),可以用一般現(xiàn)在時(shí),且主語(yǔ)Confucius是第三人稱單數(shù),空格處可以填is regarded;二是被認(rèn)為是中國(guó)傳統(tǒng)文化的一個(gè)標(biāo)志是從過(guò)去就有,到現(xiàn)在依舊是這樣的情況,就可以用現(xiàn)在完成時(shí),且主語(yǔ)Confucius是第三人稱單數(shù),空格處可以填has been regarded。故填is regarded/ has been regarded。

3

故填to honor。

When Anne Glancey, a retired school teacher, received notice from the city of Hamilton Township that she would be fined up to $3,000 per day for code violations(違規(guī)) and repairs that needed to be made to her home, she didn't know what to do.She did not have the money to pay for the repairs, and she had no family or friends she could ask for help.

The only contact she regularly made with others was with her neighbors of five years,Adam and Kristin Polhemus. Anne showed the-letter to them which explained that she needed to scrape() and paint her house, remove the abandoned and rusted car in her yard, and cut the grass. These were three violations in total, each with a fine of no mote than$1 ,000, per day,per violation.Anne had grown up in the house, and the letter made her upset. She didn't know what she was going to do and she couldn't do this herself.“Anne, we'll help you get this fixed,”Adam said.

Kristin posted a call for help and volunteers to help make repairs and paint Anne's house on Facebook. Her post read as follows:

Hamilton area friends! Are you free for a few hours this weekend? We need you! Adam and I could use your help for some painting at the home of our elderly neighbor, Anne. As you know, she received a heavy fine and she's on a deadline to scrape and repaint her home to avoid the fine. She's limited in funds and the physical ability to do the work, and we'd love nothing more than to show her we care. We really do need your help; we only have a few people right now and we're hoping for about 20 volunteers to make this happen. THANK YOU!

【題目】Where the streets smell like cheese: Milwaukee tries dairy waste as de-icer

In response to the winter storm striking the area last weekend, street crews of Milwaukee, a city in Wisconsin, will be spreading cheese brine(鹵水)along its ice-covered streets this winter as an alternative of normally used rock salt, which serves as an essential road de-icer despite its damaging impact on the environment.

The trial was inspired by a successful experiment in rural Polk County. In addition to being a more effective de-icer due to a lower freezing point, the cheesy liquid prevents rock salt from bouncing and scattering off roadways, which means less has to be used and less of it ends up entering the surrounding environment.

Milwaukee can make good use of the difficult-to-dispose type of organic waste found in great abundance across the state: salty leftover cheese-making juice. Sometimes you just have to get creative and work with the type of waste byproduct and turn it into something beneficial. When the first cheese brine salt trucks of the city appeared in the street last week, Tom Barrett, Mayor of Milwaukee, compared the act to “thinking outside of the cheese box”.

To be clear, Milwaukee won’t completely replace rock salt with thousands of gallons of salty cheese juice. The project, which will first be tested in Bay View neighborhood, will involve a mixture of rock salt and cheese brine. The brine will be sourced from a production plant owned by F&A Dairy in Polk County. Milwaukee will save in rock salt costs while F&A Dairy, which transforms 900, 000 pounds of milk into cheese every day, will save cash in the brine disposal.

While it is noted that the cheese brine solution has a “distinctive odor.” Emil Norby, the gentleman who originally thought of using cheese brine to treat ice-covered roads, explains that Milwaukee residents can expect to experience the slight bad milk smell once the cheese brine is applied to streets. He smiles, “I don’t really mind it. Our roads smell like Wisconsin!”

1Why does the cheese brine become an option as a road de-icer?

A.It increases the consumption of cheese.B.It decreases milk byproducts.

A.A test with an expected result.B.A trial made creatively.

C.A company benefiting the locals.D.A volunteer who protects environments.

3What do people think of the project of the city and F&A Dairy?

A.It will make a fortune for the city.B.It will change the life of local people.

C.It will attract more investment.D.It will be a win-win co-operation.

4How do the locals respond to the smell of cheese brine according to Norby?

A.It will lead to bad appetite.B.It may make them sick.

C.It is still acceptable.D.It cannot be noticed.

【題目】 You’re in your office when you learn there’s someone with a gun wandering outside. You can hear gunshots and screams. What do you do?

That’s the challenge for users of a new virtual (虛擬)reality program called SurviVR, designed to train employees how to deal with an active shooter situation in the workplace. The program works with HTC Vive, the virtual reality headset released earlier this year.

An active shooter situation is when an armed person or people actively shoot in a small, populated area with the intention to kill. There were 20 such situations in the United States last year and 20 the year before, according to FBI statistics, resulting in a total of 231 deaths. This year saw the deadliest active shooter situation in US history, with 49 people killed in a nightclub in Orlando.

In the training situation, users have four choices. They can lock themselves in the office. They can hide, perhaps in the office closet. They can run for an exit. Or they can use something in the office—a computer or a cup a pair of scissors-as a weapon to fight the shooter. This is an improvement on standard active shooter training. Gallo says, which typically teachers people to lock themselves in place and hide. The lock down method is often ineffective, he says, and has resulted in many deaths in recent years.

In the training’s basic level, no one gets killed. But as the trainings become more advanced, players who make a wrong choice be shot. There’s no blood; the screen simply turns black slowly.

If this sounds terrifying, that’s the point, says Gallo. There are plenty of training programs to teach employees how to deal with workplace violence, sometimes involving role play with toy guns. But these trainings are basically games. Gallo says, with employees relaxed and even enjoying themselves. To teach people what they really need to know for an active shooter situation, they need to be scared.

SurviVR will take the fear and turn it into confidence. Gallo says.

1What’s the author’s purpose of describing a dangerous scene in Para. 1?

A.To attract the readers’ attention on the new virtual reality program.

B.To show the challenge that the readers are required to face.

C.To warn the readers of the possible dangers in the working place.

D.To inform the readers of the correct response in such a situation

2What is the suggested response in the standard active shooter training?

A.Fighting the shooter

B.Running for the exit

C.Using a computer as a weapon

D.Locking down

3What does Gallo think of the training programs involving role play with toy guns?

A.SearingB.Violent

C.IneffectiveD.Helpful

4What would be the best title?

A.A New Virtual Reality Program on Active Shooter Training

B.What Should You Do When Meeting Gunshots in the Workplace?

C.How to Deal with an Active Shooter Situation?

D.Employees Need to Be Scared of the Workplace Violence.

【題目】 A lot of kids struggle with reading. Parents have tried encouraging them in all sorts of ways, but nothing seems to work. Actually many factors(因素)can cause reading problems.1 Here are a few things you can do to help your kid become a better reader.

Read to your kid-and have him/her read to you

Grab one of the books you loved when you were your kid's age and read it to him/her or take turns reading it to each other. 2 Make reading a regular part of the night-time routine.

Don't be pushy

Just because you're a science fan or read on history and other nonfiction doesn't mean your kid will be remotely interested in any of those things. In fact, you've been pushing your tastes on your kid. 3

Choose books that interest your kid

Most kids love movies. Did your kid like Ready Player One or Ender's Game? They are based on books. 4 If your goal is to get your kid interested in reading and improve his/her skills, what your kid's reading is less important than how much time he/she spends doing it.

5

Kids who have trouble reading often feel that there's something wrong with them. So work with your kid to come up with manageable goals and make a big deal every time he/she accomplishes one. With time, gradually make the goals more challenging.

A.Achieve your goals

B.Celebrate small steps

C.Reading books can help your kid get a head start in school.

D.If your kid stops or makes a mistake, be patient and don't judge.

E.Overcoming them can sometimes be an annoying process for everyone.

F.Starting with something your kid is already interested in could help draw him into reading.

G.You may have contributed to his/her reading problems rather than helping overcoming them.
