【題目】My son Cameron who was 16 years old came up with this crazy idea to make his own survival show. Well I thought it was just another one of his “phases” but he began to sound more and more serious about it. He’s a big outdoors man and has always loved the idea of surviving in the woods by himself, but he has never done anything like this. Anyway, he somehow raised $4,000 for his idea. With the money he bought a nice camcorder(攝像機(jī)) ;that’s when I realized that he was really serious about this whole thing.

Cameron organized the trip all by himself. I just put out a few rules that he had to follow and rented a satellite phone so that he could contact us on his journey. My son traveled nearly 50 miles, while surviving for four days and three nights alone in the wilderness. He had no food or water, only his knife, and a camera. The journey was difficult as he traveled through valleys, up and down big waterfalls, all while he was filming his entire journey. The wilderness we dropped him off in was a wild forest that is made up of untouched land; he found his way to the beautiful lake where we picked him up. In the end he made the most amazing movie that I have ever seen in all my life.

My son’s courage should be recognized. That is why I am trying my hardest to get him seen by the rest of the world. Cameron recently turned 17. He already has plans for his next adventure and I have no hope in stopping him from completing it. This next summer he plans on surviving for two or three weeks on a desert island in Fiji or Tonga. No teenage kid has ever done anything close to what my son Cameron has done.

1As for his son’s idea of survival show, the author _____.

A. supported it at the beginning B. realized it was fun and possible

C. had thought it would not come true D. had thought his son was serious

2Where were Cameron’s parents waiting for his son?

A. At the beautiful lake. B. At the large waterfall.

C. On the untouched land. D. At the end of the forest.

3What will impress the world in the author’s opinion?

A. The great bravery of Cameron. B. The plan Cameron has made.

C. The photos Cameron has taken. D. The scenery Cameron has described.

【題目】閱讀理解
Stop wasting your time thinking of reasons for your failures and shortcomings. Instead, realize that the seeds of success were planted within you when you were born. Only you have the power to make those seeds grow.
The seeds, and the power to grow them, are contained in the most awesome machine ever created: the human mind. Success is a choice and not a chance. You were born a winner. You were born rich. You can be a success if only you make the right choice.
You cannot be successful without first developing your self-esteem (自信心). Your level of self-esteem is always based on the degree of control that you are able to exercise over yourself, and thus over your life. People with low self-esteem are people who do not believe that they have any power, or responsibility for their lives. They are always victims. They are leaves tossed (搖擺) by the winds of chance blown about with any sudden change in the weather.
You can exercise control over your life only to the degree that you believe you are responsible for everything that happens in your life. Failures think that everything happens by accident and chance. Successful people realize that they are responsible.
Everything happens as a result of something. If we can identify the cause, we can control the effect. We are responsible for what we choose to think and believe. One generally rises to the level that one expects. We are responsible for setting our expectations. Our success is dependent upon our level of confidence.
If you associate with positive-thinking people, you are definitely going to achieve success. On the contrary, the opposite happens. We are responsible for finding, planting, and nurturing (培育) the seeds that contain future victory, born from setbacks (挫折).
In short, in all areas of your life, whether they are financial, physical, emotional, or spiritual, you are responsible. Once you recognize this, accept it, and firmly believe it. You are on the road to success.
(1)People with low self-esteem are compared to leaves because they ________.

D.are ready to change their minds

A.success is the result of hard work
B.working hard will lead to success
C.they fail only because of bad luck
D.they don't make efforts to succeed
(3)It can be inferred from the fifth paragraph that ________.
A.setting our expectations is essential before taking action
B.knowing cause and effect is the key to future success
C.thoughts and beliefs are the result of creative mind
D.whether we will succeed depends on our attitudes

A.the proof of the author's points
B.the conclusion of the argument
C.an introduction to another topic
D.a comparison between two views

No personal success, achievement, or goal, can be realized without self-discipline. It is the ability to control one's impulses, emotions, desires and behavior. 【題目】Some parents can’t resist the strong desire to help their children play hooky (逃學(xué)) for a trip. Five-year-old Erica and her siblings Alex, 9, and Kate, 12, missed school in Denver on Aug. 21, 2017. Their father Mr. Reed took them on a camping trip to Halsey to see the solar eclipse (日食). Kate had told her teachers she’d be absent and Mr. Reed let Erica’s and Alex’s teachers know, too. But he didn’t ask for permission.

Mr. Reed has loved astronomy since seeing Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on his sixth birthday. He says, “I want my own kids to have a similar kind of wonderment and hope about future discoveries.”

Parents often dream of traveling with their children to teach them about science, geography and culture. Many teachers support them, as the Reed children’s teachers did. Other teachers were angry about the extra work.

Teacher Amanda says she feels frustrated when parents take students out of school for family trips. If she sends homework, she finds it’s often returned incomplete or incorrect, because the absent student didn’t hear her explanation in class. Some students suffer anxiety as they struggle to catch up. Research shows that students who are absent often, for any reason—excused or unexcused—performed more poorly in school.

Garrick agreed to miss five days of school for the Antarctic trip last year as a senior high school student, however. Managing the homework was a challenge, but it helped him gain time management skills. “And the trip is worth the effort,” he says, “sparking his interest in international relations. You can’t really put a price on changing your world view,” Garrick says. “That’s what travel has done for me. It has changed how I think about things.”

1What’s the teachers’ attitude toward “playing hooky”?

A. They support it as it offers children hope about future discoveries.

B. It angers them because the homework is often returned incorrect.

C. They hold different kinds of views about playing hooky.

D. They are against it because too many students are absent.

2According to the passage, why do the students have a poorer performance in school?

A. Because they are often absent for any reason.

B. Because they are not interested in study at all.

C. Because they travel with their parents too much.

D. Because they don’t do the homework regularly.

3What benefit did Garrick get from his trip to Antarctica?

A. It made him lose time management skills.

B. It changed little of his world view.

C. It awoke his interest in international relations.

D. It made him more creative.
